I must warn the reader in advance that the following article is only about my, as you know, mostly controversial opinion. So no one needs to read the following article and need to agree with it. Since I value our readers' precious time, they warn them in the first few sentences. Apple is the most valuable company on Wall Street, Apple earned $13 billion in net profit, Apple experienced the best quarter in history, Apple increased margin on products by 6% in three months. So yes, well, it's probably good, but I still don't understand how and in what way. Company Apple has not invested in a major purchase for several years, the company Apple supports child labor in China, society Apple does not manufacture in the US and does not employ people in the country in which the company is based Apple does not innovate, the company's products Apple they have more bugs and users complain about them more.
Apple supports children's work
Pro In this paragraph, I will use several translations from This American Life, created by Ondra Holzman from Jablickar. The translations concern an interview with This American Life about an employee.ancand the Foxconn factory, which is the company's largest manufacturer Apple.
- One of the workers that Mike Daisey (the author of the project) interviewed was a 13-year-old girl who polishes the glass for thousands of new iPhones every day. The interview with her took place in front of the factory, which is guarded by an armed guard.
- During Daisey's first two hours outside the factory, he encountered workers who claimed to be 14, 13, and 12 years old. The project's author estimates that about 5% of the employeesancThe people he spoke to were minors.
- Daisey assumes that Apple, who has such an eye for detail, must know about these things. Or he doesn't know about them because he simply doesn't want to.
- The reporter also visited other factories in Shenzhen, where he introduced himself as a potential customer. He discovered that the individual floors of the factories are actually huge halls that can accommodate 20 to 30 thousand workers. The rooms are quiet. Talking is prohibited and there are no machines. For such little money there is no reason to use them.
- An assembly line can only move as fast as the slowest worker, so everyone is busy.ancand watched. Most of them are standing.
- The busy man goes to sleep.anceven into small bedrooms, where there are 15 beds stacked up to the ceiling. The average American wouldn't want to go there.ancand enter.
- This 13-year-old girl revealed that she doesn't care about age at Foxconn. Sometimes there are inspections, but the company knows when they will happen, so before the inspector arrives, they replace the young workers with the older ones.
- One man crushed his arm in a metal press at Foxconn, but the company did not provide him with any medical assistance. When his hand healed, he was no longer able to work with it, so he was fired. (Fortunately, he found a new job, working with wood, where he says he has better working conditions - he only works 70 hours a week.)
- By the way, this man at Foxconn used to make the metal body for iPads. When Daisey showed him his iPad, he realized the man had never seen it before. He held it, played with it and said it was "magical".
So basically, as you can see, everything works similarly to, for example, Iran and its nuclear program. Everyone knows he has it, everyone knows he's making nuclear weapons. Each inspection is reported months in advance and never reveals anything. Equally Apple never reveal child labor. Of course we don't want them to be products Apple expensive, no one cares, not even me nestThe question, however, is whether if Apple moved even just 10% of its production to Slovakia with 13% unemployment, to Africa, to the Czech Republic with 11% unemployment or even to the USA, whether it would increase product prices or, conversely, reduce the company's profits. We all know very well that the Sony PSP costs less than its production costs, the production costs and profits are then made up of the sale of games. Proso Apple cannot reduce its profits and obtain financand otherwise.
Apple does not support work in the US
It is right that the vast majority of employeesancThe suppliers and manufacturers of one of the most valuable companies in the US were Chinese. Is it right for one of the largest companies in the world to be based in a country with 9% unemployment and fail to provide enough jobs and instead provide those jobs to Chinese citizens? Steve Jobs He managed to make 100 people billionaires, that's great, but the question is whether it's not better to make a million people employed.ance. Apple is a company that should set an example not only in its technologies, visions and other things, but especially in its behavior.
Apple does not innovate
In recent years though Apple introduced iPhone 4 and iPad, the computer line has remained unnoticed for many years and is only going through a forced evolution, which is caused by pressure from other manufacturers, rather than a revolution. It is not possible to introduce a revolutionary product every year, but the Unibody design has been here for more than five years and has not changed in any way during that time. Here and there, information appears that Apple patented an interesting function, feature or technology. However, how many of these patents were introduced to the users themselves? The company also stops providing enough quality products for professional users, current computers Mac Pro are as powerful as the base models in the basic configuration priced at $3000 MacBook Pro at a price of $1200. The last attempt at Final Cut innovation Pro ended with a modest success and the return of the financto those who purchased this product. Apple was from its beginning a company that frowned mainly on professional users, but today it more or less coughs on them in view of profits.
I agree with the author of the article!
I totally agree!!!
(I sign this article,
as if I wrote it)
The whole thing about those big financial successes "reeks of hyenism" to me.
Characteristic of this time is that one does not know what to do with money and the other is dripping with hunger!
Foxconn is the only company that Apple placed an order for production, I honestly don't care if children work in their factories. In Africa there are child soldiers, in South America there are drug cartels where children are drug dealers and gang members, and in Europe there is child pornography. You can't choose an acronym, and anyone who wants to beat their waists will find one. In this regard, I have been selfish and callous since birth. Of course, I also have to say that I subscribe to the part of the article about "innovation". I'm disappointed because I'm a fan Apple I mainly love computers and secondary products are of secondary importance to me personally. I have been waiting for some kind of advisory innovation for MAC for a long time, but if I were in their place, I would rather invest and innovate more in the product from which the company would have the most profit, even if it is paradoxical that it focuses more on other products than on MAC
The whole thing is turned on its head and not just banned politics apple but alas, this is the policy of the whole world now, and why employ the children of boys and girls? It's a long way from adulthood and starting a family, they don't need a lot of money and that's the whole point, I recommend you look at the finmag.cz article called "why I won't hire you" there is a terrible description of the procedure why it is actually not worthwhile to create a CR, SR , surrounding states or jobs in the USA as well
The article is interesting. As an entrepreneur, I am personally interested in how much I earn. The reason why I do not want to employ anyone from the Czech Republic or the USA is because such a worker is expensive and less efficient than a Chinese worker. Producing in China is a competitive advantage that I will lose by moving production to the USA. And I cannot afford that if I want to be successful – to have a valuable company, cheap products and some profit from it. By moving to the USA, my profit will decrease, I will not have the money to buy out the production capacity of a manufacturer and I will produce more expensively. My profit will then be so small that I will have to raise the price and now the question is. As a customer, will I buy it at a higher price if I know that it is a purely domestic product? The answer is I will not buy it, because I am mainly concerned with the price. Pro Apple it is then a road leading to ruin. It's the same with us here - we want quality homemade food, but we're not willing to pay the price. Apple would like to move its production to the USA when customers are willing to accept a higher price.
So I agree, I just don't know if there would be people in the USA, Slovakia or CR who would be willing to do such work, be in better conditions and with better salaries.
"It is characteristic of this time that one does not know what to do with money and
the other is dripping with hunger!'
It always was and always will be!
I don't agree with the article. But I enjoyed it. Thank you. :)
I basically agree with the content, although not entirely with the form. I would just point out that the unibody design has not been on the market for 5 years. The first machines were introduced in October 2008 - that is, 3 and a quarter years ago. I would consider the new MB to be a relevant innovation Air from October 2010.
First of all, thanks for the interesting perspective. I'm sure many of us have already wondered about many of the things in the article. drive they thought. However, as Igor basically wrote, Apple is a company, not a charity. I hope we all know what the goal of business is and no one will voluntarily deprive themselves of a competitive advantage. Google once made a bit of a spectacle for the public in China, but today they are pushing it out the window again. As for the work of Chinese people, there is a bit of a problem there, whether it is better for the Chinese themselves to work in miserable conditions on an assembly line, or to have nothing to say. I know, it is cruel, "Western" civilization is kind of living at the expense of developing countries, but I am not sure whether this planet can support a billion Chinese (and other billions from similar areas) if conditions were established in their country like in the "West". It goes hand in hand with the fact that I am not necessarily convinced that every country in the world is ready for our form of democracy (see Libya, Egypt ...) and the development in these countries after the "revolution" proves me right. As for the impact of the considerations over the actual transfer of production, whether to us or to the USA, if someone thinks that maybe in Nosovice at Hyundai it is some kind of delicacy, then they are very mistaken, I would like to see that dressage. It is probably not China, but even so, and it is clear that the intellectual elite does not work there either, and the people in question do a lot of things they like "for work". The same in the USA. Who would produce there AppDid he assemble it? Yes, Mexicans... I speak for myself, in that case it might be better if it was the Chinese.
So I strongly disagree.
First of all, it does not employ children Apple, but Foxconn. Foxconn is only a supplier - and by the way, to a ton of companies other than Apple (Acer, Amazon, Toshiba, IBM, Asus, Microsoft,Dell, HP…) and now hold on, Foxconn has branches both here and in Slovakia! Among other things, it also has them in Brazil, Mexico and India. I have no illusions that things should be better there. By the way, the conditions of workers at other supplier companies are of course exactly the same. Foxconn is only talked about because it works for Apple and he is a media star (see worker suicides, etc.)
Secondly – supporting work in the USA – you forget that a lot of work is also done at home – certainly not production and assembly, but advertising.ministrace and sales. Of course, it's a minority compared to the workers in China, but it still has a headquarters here. They can be glad that they haven't yet set up headquarters in China or Singapore, as is popular today.
I don't know what the author (and his fans) expect - that it will go Apple example and at the cost of a rapid increase in prices, he will move production to America in order to give "true Americans" (which would ultimately be immigrants anyway, Americans are lazy about this, just look at the employment statistics)anc(in the USA, so there is no US support) work. And we can't talk about any "parts" - we are talking about millions here.oneof pieces, that means a completely new factory, transportation, management... Everyone, take off your headphones, people want to save money, especially now, even a small price increase is noticeable in sales. If it were 2007, I would understand. Apple he was never a fighter for human rights (whatever he said he wanted :P), he was all about profit, just like all the other companies named above. As he has Apple influence the working conditions of the internal company that manufactures parts for them? Take it from others? Do you really believe that Foxconn is just an exception and workers are doing well elsewhere?
In the third step - innovation - this trend is noticeable, but not surprising. If you Apple If he hadn't started targeting a broader base, would he be where he is now? Is iPhone h. for professionals? iPad? MBA? Definitely not, and take a look at a few articles below, on what Apple earns the most. It's a shame, but something for something. And the first thing is much better for me as an ordinary consumer, and for a company that, thanks to it, has a multibillion-dollar turnover as well.
I had the same view of child labor in Chinese factories, but an article changed my mind some time ago. In Africa, children are suffering, I have no food, water, money. Most people in China probably don't suffer like that, but what can we say, the regime there won't be optimal either, and for the people who live there, every job is great, better than living in poverty on the street.
As for manufacturing elsewhere than in China, I would agree, but today everything is made in China and everyone makes it there. On the other hand, for example, Samsung has a factory in Slovenks, where distribution for part of Europe takes place, it is questionable. But I'm not surprised that they're not in the US, it wouldn't pay for them there, they have 35% taxes there.
That movie has almost the same value as Zeitgeist blockbusters and the like. They are manipulative, they take things out of context, and they go after their opinion strongly.
I understand that you are writing about Apple, when this server is about Apple. But it seems to me a bit like you are trying to show that you can look at things from both sides and not just defend how the company is Apple amazing. It is commendable to be unbiased, but again, be careful where the other extreme begins. This article is written in such a way (without discussion) that it seems that Apple is the only company that is the "bad" one. Just as in the article about the results for the first quarter, comparisons with other companies should not be missing, this comparison should not be missing here either. We all know how opinions sound when we don't have a relevant yardstick. That's my point. I guess I didn't express myself clearly.
I agree with Kotrfa.
But there is another thing that strikes me. Articles on LSA I've been reading for a while now, but I still can't understand how someone can write with such spelling on a website that itself published an article about spell checking in Mac OS X. This is really a tragedy. I don't understand why you don't do anything about it, even though a few people have already mentioned it here. Your articles are otherwise nice... :(
I disagree with the article!
Apple not a state, but a company. It must only follow the laws, and it is the task of the state to monitor it. Apple she doesn't have to take into account all the opinions of people who have heard about her. How and which people like the company is up to her. It seems Apple is successful in this.
However, it is not clear to me why the person who writes the website about Apple she scolds him like this and fundamentally disagrees with him. I'm supposed to think he's a parasite who thrives on success Apple?
The information in the article does not seem to me to be substantiated facts or sufficiently explained and defended opinions. It all sounds like envious whining to me.
:-)
An interesting attitude towards constructive criticism…
Of course I disagree anyway ;-)
Vintage Apple he keeps busy, yes, he still fights a little against child labor. But everyone who, like me, has dealt with production at some point knows how difficult it is to be competitive and not produce in action. It is very difficult in those static factories to find out if there are children working there or not. There are 80 factories on the mainland opposite Taiwan alone, and what's new in the central cinema... Believe me, it doesn't work, and it often works apple more than other competition.
Apple employs people for jobs with high added value in America, these are jobs we are interested in and we don't want factories here.
Apple he made products for professionals, hmmm, so what, did he really want to do that? ProThere are only a few, but how many ordinary people want to use computers that they don't have to set up and don't have to call IT for every stupid thing? apple he focused on professionals, it was given that he needed to start from customers who can afford to pay for the quality.
However, they will return to this advice, but you need to choose a product that you prefer at some point and not get distracted by secondary factors, and now this is the main thing. iOS.
This is the second time I've seen such a reaction. It's like you're advertising for us to read it somewhere other than here.
I will easily oppose you in the same way:

In short, the article lacks an objective comparison with other companies. I don't think it's there just (perhaps unconsciously) to make it look like you can write against it Apple, despite being a supporter of it. And I don't mean that in a bad way.
But recognize yourself that the way the article is written, it seems like it is Apple a scumbag company abusing teenagers and still putting their hands in presses.
A less educated (in the sense of knowledgeable about the issue) reader may misunderstand it. They will not learn anything about the fact that Foxconn is actually responsible for the conditions and that Apple is only a customer, about the fact that other suppliers also have the same conditions (see links), etc. That's what I miss in the article :) .
No offense, no flame
PS Btw. when I sent the comment, it threw me a message that I was spamming, so I'd better leave those styles alone :D
To the author:
when your child is interested in work from the age of 14, will it be perceived that you are enslaving him? or that you have a clever child who sa nestis working.
I have been working since I was 14 and it has never been perceived as abuse.
My sister has been working since she was 14. At the age of 16, she even went to England for a brigade during the summer holidays, and everyone sees that as a plus. My grandfather worked, I guess, from the age of 10, if not from birth, and it was perceived as natural and self-evident. Both of his hands were broken and he still went to school, worked in the fields and tended sheep.
The question is whether those children are held there by force.
Poor Martin K from Martin worked probably from the age of 14. At 16, he had his own company and by 30 he was already an influential businessman.
That Apple does it not employ americans? Do you have accurate knowledge of the origin of the shareholders? What if half of the shareholders are from China???? in that case Apple employs local people.
Let's see how much Czech you are. Do you have a Czech computer? do you have a Czech car? a bike? plastic windows? television set? a fridge? washing machine? yogurt? butter? meat? fruit? vegetables? Do you have income from a foreign company? You have saved financie in a Czech bank?
What share of your monthly consumption is spent on household goods and services?
Try to think first and then write. Because you have absolutely no idea about the connections
Do you know what comparative advantages are? Do you know Smith's free market theory? the effect of global prices on the demand and supply function? Do you know what tariffs are and their impact on consumers and the state budget?
How much of yours
Fuha You worked from the age of 14 360 days a year for 18 hours a day for $100 a month? I admire you….. I could not do this, you have great admiration for me…
Mr. Styrak, but everyone contributed intelligent comments to the discussion, I couldn't understand you....
Fuha You worked from the age of 14 360 days a year 18 hours a day for $100 a month? I admire you... I could not do this, you have my great admiration... - You are the only ones in Europe
Do you really think that the children who at the age of 12 work 18 hours a day at the passport office are the ones who at the age of 30 have all their companies and don't have to go to work? - you are the only one in the world who thinks so
According to the origin of the shareholder, do you evaluate where the company comes from? – You are the only ones in the world.
Do you really think thatCloud is the world's first Klodov solution? Well, I didn't notice that it would Apple reduced the size of the HDD (by the way, Mr. commentator, did you notice that iOS device for which it is alsoCloud I definitely don't use HDD primarily, you probably don't see) Well then Apple introduced iPhone 4 to iPhone 4S, the first model with 64GB FLASH memory, does that mean it reduced the size of the FLASH memory?
Man, you haven't written a single word of fact and reality... try to think about what you're writing again. On the other hand, I understand that it's good to vent your intelligent opinion somewhere when no one at home cares about it. nestoh, why not see it here :-)….
I accept all people's opinions, they are entitled to them and I will not offend any of their comments, I am not saying that they are wrong.... so why do you vilify an article on the MEM server that I just wrote on MY server, because as far as I know I have the right to do so.... Believe me, I will never post insults to your opinion on your server...
and yet to apple does not innovate
the first to throw out large-capacity HDDs and replace them as wellCloudoh The first that started to remove CDrom as a natural development into the future and replace it with the support of more powerful network transfers. And not just as a necessity to make a netbook.
Mr. author….. there is not much to innovate on HW. SW is key, services, etc. Today's SW has a hard time using the potential of 5-8 year old HW, let alone the new one.
GCD has been part of OSX for several years now, and most applications are still single-threaded.
Why do I need a 4-core processor for photoshop, when photoshop is still a single-threaded application. So he cannot use it for more than 25%.
PC innovation these days is exactly the direction of MBA + iCloud. this is innovation. Not a new processor, and hardly a different material. Although there are some tests with some heat-conducting polymers, they still cannot replace aluminum today.
Well, I didn't expect this here. The socialist view in the era of the global economy surprised me. The author is simply naive and whether he likes it or not, he will not change the global world. I would just like to know where he buys and whether or not the price is the deciding factor when buying even everyday needs. For the transfer of production to Asia, Europe and the USA themselves are to blame for high market regulation, taxes, unions and, last but not least, the desire of buyers for the lowest price. I recommend the author to stay on the topic of the computer, because he does not have a basic overview in the field of economics
So I buy parts from Foxconn, is that why I'm a bad person?
I propose to fire all workers under the (human) age of 15, that they prefer to live on the streets.
Konec announcement.
@Roman: to that "Okay, you capitalists :)" ... just as an aside, outside the core of the discussion, it is quite absurd how capitalism in the crudest form, as we knew it in Europe at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, rules in today's "communist" China. I always have to laugh at that.
Except for the last one, I do not agree with the innovations at all. Like yeah, it's terrible what's going on, but instead of every word Apple any (computer) brand could be used and everything would be the same, if not worse!!! Such an article is so useful maxideally to some declining general computer website where they need to increase their readership by word of mouth Apple.
And what's more, is someone forcing the children to work? i.e. if they could get by without it, why do they do it? so if your wish came true and Apple would move production to Europe and the US, what would happen? They would just go to work for some other manufacturer to work with objectionable shit - so now they happen to be lucky that they can work for Foxconn!!!!
Mrs. Zvřelová, I wrote about you being careful about what you write because people are reading it and you are influencing their opinion. Assuming that your server is interested in becoming something more than just a space for your observations.
You write about child abuse as something wrong. About abuse. Well, you don't know the whole context enough to accuse someone of child abuse.
He wrote about the fact that I too, for example, or my sister and otherwise probably most of my acquaintances have work experience from the age of 14, of course summer part-time work. I didn't always want to, but the money came in handy.
And our work has never been considered abuse. Today, we have completely available part-time jobs for 16-year-olds. I can't take on material responsibility and I can't even work the night shift. So much for legal restrictions on the employment of minors in Slovakia. A friend and colleague employed a 16-year-old girl as a temporary worker. Her parents were proud of her and no one accused her employer of abuse.
Working habits in China depend on the customs there and compare them with our customs, in terms of the scope of the labor pool, salary or miniat a young age is not objective. We can only compare Chinese companies with each other. Whether one does not violate basic human rights and freedoms.
I am not a representative.ancabout the transfer of production to cheaper labor force, but the topic of foreign trade policy - protectionism and comparative advantages is currently venuI eat and it is not a completely clear topic as you write here (as far as appand unemployment in the USA) The world market economy and globalization have different effects on producers, consumers and governments in this regard, especially when conventional tools are associated with it.
Mr. Styrak, I envy your childhood Ván, it is not better to spend it at work, and just by the way, the SR law prohibits employing 14-year-old children, even part-time, so either you are not telling the truth, or the person you worked for broke the law.
Comparative advantages,Free market theory from Adamand Smith from 1776, man, have you gone crazy, not a single thing is related to the abuse of children for labor.
In one comment from Mr. Zavřeland do you have links where this issue is written about, did you write there too?
And one more thing, Mr. Štyrák, try writing your opinion about UNICEF, I would be quite interested in their response, that is, if they don't sue you straight away
