Many people have used shared albums not only to share photos with family and friends, but also as a relatively handy way to have some images stored outside the main Photos library, de facto unlimited.

Shared albums are no longer "free"

Until now, shared albums had a specific status. The photos and videos in them did not count towards your personal limit.Cloud storage, which some users used to store older photos or videos that they wanted to have available but didn't want to pay for additional space. Older albums remain for now

The good news is that Apple according to the current betaversion does not delete the old way existing shared albums work. Albums created before the transition to iOS 27 are still operating according to the original rules, which means that if you have created a shared album in the past and have photos stored in it, due to iOS 27, their contents should not suddenly start counting towards your storage.

But the new albums work differently. Apple in addition iOS 27 adds the ability to create a temporary shared album that can last up to 30 days and is intended for, for example, a wedding, vacation, or other event where you want multiple people to easily upload photos to one place.
