After a long decade, Instagram is changing one of the most prominent parts of its visual identity. This time (thankfully after the recent scandal with Spotify ), it's not the app icon we're used to, but the Instagram logo itself, which appears at the top of the app, for example. Meta has changed its appearance to make it look more modern and clean. However, users are reacting to the new feature somewhat differently than Instagram probably imagined.

New wordmark first arrived on Thursday, replacing the signature font that Instagram has used for about a decade. The camera icon itself remains unchanged. Instagram did not do a complete redesign of its logo, but focused only on the typographic part of the brand.

Instagram boss Adam Mosseri explained the change by saying that the original wordThe mark has been in place for a decade, and the company says it's time for a refresh. The new look is supposed to be cleaner and more modern, while retaining some elements of the original look. Instagram seems to be trying to make it feel more contemporary without completely abandoning its old identity.  But the readability of the new inscription has become the target of criticism. The new font is a strange combination of writing and classic printed style, and many people find the name Instagram paradoxically harder to read. Jokes quickly appeared on social networks that the new inscription resembles, for example, "Instagzam" or "Instagwam".

Instagram evidently expected the change to spark discussion. Mosseri's new wordmark also posted on Threads, saying he wanted to see what kind of reaction it would get. The design Instagram account also showed some other varianty fonts that the team considered during the design. What is somewhat interesting is that some of these alternatives seem more readable than the final form, according to user reactions.

On the other hand, this is not a change that should fundamentally change the functioning of the application itself. Instagram remains Instagram and the application icon that users are familiar with is not changing, according to available information. This is mainly a cosmetic change to the brand, which is intended to give the platform a more modern look. It is interesting that Instagram has made the change now. The social network has undergone a huge number of changes in recent years and is increasingly focusing on video, Reels and content recommended by algorithms. The new wordmark is just another reminder that Instagram is trying to gradually shift its identity.

Whether we get used to the new sign or whether it will become one of the most discussed redesigns of recent years, only time will tell. But one thing is certain now – Instagram has changed its signature after ten years, and the internet certainly doesn't care. And how do you like the change? We in the editorial team are actually quite satisfied.
