Some time ago, I had the opportunity to test one of the first new generation power banks from Xtorm, and I must say that I was surprised at how much the manufacturer has moved forward in recent years. It was no longer just an ordinary battery hidden in a plastic body, but a well-thought-out product with high-quality workmanship, a smart display, and functions that I had never even considered in a power bank before.
Now that I have the new Xtorm in my hands NextGen Powerbank with poweronem 70 W and a capacity of 27,000 mAh, I was therefore mainly curious about one thing - specifically whether it would only be larger variathe previous model, or will it offer something extra. And after a few weeks of use, I have to say that the second option is the right one. In my opinion, this power bank is no longer primarily aimed at people who need to charge their phone once in a while. It is aimed at users of laptops, tablets and other more demanding devices who want to be sure that even a few hours away from homeancThe electrician or homeowner will not have to worry about where to find the nearest outlet.
Technical Specifications
Xtorm has bet on its next Next-gen powerbank with a capacity of 27,000 mAh, which means enough energy not only for several phone charges, but also for an iPad or MacBook AirThe manufacturer claims up to eight smartphone charges, or approximately one and a half charges. MacBooku, which corresponds to the target group for which this model is intended. But the most interesting thing in my opinion is not the capacity itself. The main role here is played by performance.
The power bank can handle up to 70W Power Delivery via USB-C, so it can easily power not only phones but also laptops such as MacBook Pro or other more demanding electronics in general. The second USB-C port offers the same performance and there is also a USB-A with poweronem up to 22,5 W.
Another big attraction is the USB-C cable connected to the handle and supporting 70W charging. I admit that I initially thought it was more of a marketing bonus. But after a few days of use, I changed my mind. How many times have I pulled a power bank out of my backpack in the past and found that the cable was left at home or in theancThere is simply no danger of a similar situation here.
Another great benefit is the smart display showing the current charging power, remaining capacity, estimated time to full discharge or full charge, and whether fast charging is currently in progress. On paper, this may not sound like a crucial feature, but during testing I found myself looking at the display practically every time I reached for the power bank.ance added something.
Processing and construction
Xtorm is on the line NextThe Gen retains the design direction that I liked with the previous model. The combination of dark design, quality materials and robust workmanship really looks premium and you don't feel like you're holding an ordinary power bank from an e-shop for a few hundred.
Of course, you need to take into account that with a capacity of over 27,000 mAh, this is not a small device. At around 620 grams, you won't be able to carry it in your pants pocket. But I honestly don't think that's its purpose. This power bank belongs in a backpack, laptop bag, or carry-on luggage for traveling. I carried it there too and I didn't really notice its weight.
Testing
I have to honestly say that one thing surprised me during testing. After a really long time, I had the feeling that the power bank was actually charging the laptop, and not just slowing down its discharge, which I think makes a huge difference. With many cheaper models, you can connect the laptop, but the percentages still slowly decrease, just a little slower. Here I am working on MacBooku Air M3, but maybe also MacBooku Pro The M5 routinely saw the battery really drain even though I had it open Safari with several dozen panels, WordPress, Slack and Apple MusicThis is exactly how I always imagined a truly usable laptop power bank.
It worked just as well with the iPad AirWhen I was testing portable monitors in recent weeks, I often worked for several hours outside of the office.ancAnd that's when I appreciated that I didn't have to think about whether my tablet or laptop would last all the way home. ProI connected the cable and continued on.
I also got used to the display very quickly. It may sound strange, but after a few days I started looking at it every time I plugged something in. Suddenly you know exactly how many watts your device is currently using, whether it's fast charging or how much time is left until the power bank is fully charged. This is information I never had with older power banks, and when I went back to the classic model for a while, I was surprised how much I missed it.
A nice bonus is also Always-On a mode that is especially suitable for devices with very low power consumption, such as smart watches or some smaller gadgets. With regular power banks, I sometimes found that they stopped charging after a while because they thought that nothing was connected. I did not have a similar problem here.
The big advantage is of course the ability to charge multiple devices at the same time. During testing, I charged several devices simultaneously. MacBook, iPhone I also plugged in my headphones and I didn't feel like the power bank was struggling to keep up. On the contrary, it was interesting to watch on the display how the power was automatically distributed between the individual ports.
I also appreciate the support for pass-through charging. So if you arrive at a hotel or airport, you can use one adapter to charge the power bank itself and the connected devices at the same time. Although you don't use exactly similar little things every day, when they come in handy, they can make traveling much more enjoyable. Xtorm also states that the power bank itself can be recharged in approximately three hours, which is a very solid value considering the capacity.
As for the disadvantages, I can only think of the higher weight and larger dimensions, which in my opinion are completely understandable considering the capacity of the power bank and its other specifications. Moreover, since it is a wired model, you can "suck out" its capacity much more efficiently than wireless models, so my iPhone 17 Pro It managed about 6 full charges with the power bank, which is a really good result.
Summary
Xtorm NextThe Gen Powerbank 70W is not a device for everyone. If you need to charge your phone once a month on a trip, you will probably be fine with a significantly cheaper model. But if, like me, you often travel with MacBookemail, iPad, phoneonewith other electronics, this power bank will start to make sense very quickly. It offers enough power and capacity, quality workmanship, an excellent display and, most importantly, a number of thoughtful details that you will really appreciate in everyday use.
After a few weeks of testing, I realized that the biggest advantage isn't even the specs on paper. It's the feeling of not having to worry about whether the device will last you until the evening. ProYou know that whenever you need it, you have a mobile socket in your backpack that can easily charge your phone, tablet and laptop. And that's exactly why this power bank made such a good impression on me.
