When manufacturers introduce new wireless headphones these days, it's usually no big surprise. Better noise cancellation, slightly longer battery life, a new codec, or even minor design changes. The market is simply so mature that real innovations are only coming in slowly. That's why the new Soundcore Liberty 5 Pro makes me Max from Anker impressed me from the very first presentation. Not because of the promised sound or ANC, but because they try to do things completely differently.
And after a few weeks of use, I have to say that they are exactly that. Whether we are talking about the display right in the charging case, AI features, voice control or the overall approach to what modern headphones should be able to do, the Liberty 5 Pro Max they represent something I have not experienced with any other model.
Technical specifications, processing and design
On paper, these are very well-equipped headphones. We find Bluetooth 6.1, support for AAC, SBC and LDAC codecs, adaptive active noise cancellation using eight microphones and ten sensors, surround sound Dolby Atmos, the ability to connect to three devices simultaneously or IP55 resistance against water and dust. The sound processing and AI functions are handled by the new Thus chip, which according to the manufacturer is the first ever audio a chip combining a computing unit and memory in one solution.
But honestly, I was the second to think about all of this when I unpacked it. The case immediately caught my eye. The charging case is not just an ordinary box that is used to charge the headphones. On its front side there is a 1,78″ AMOLED display, through which you can control a number of functions, display notifications, work with AI functions, adjust settings or even set your own photos.
I admit that at first I thought it was probably just a small thing that I would use for a week and then forget about. But nestThe longer I used the headphones, the more I realized that the display wasn't just a fancy addition. It actually changed the way the entire product was used quite significantly.
The headphones themselves are very comfortable. The manufacturer has included a large number of eartips of different sizes, so it was not a problem to find the ideal combination. Even after several hours of listening, I did not feel any unpleasant pressure and the headphones held my ears very securely. If I add to that the fact that they are available in black and gold, I dare say that many people will find something to their liking with this model.

I have been using it for a long time. AirPods, whether in the basic version or in variaFor the last few years I have become accustomed to the fact that Apple is one of the companies that can offer very smart features and perfect connection to the ecosystem. The whole product feels more like a combination of headphones, a smart assistant, and a pocket gadget, which you can tell within the first few minutes of use. While with most headphones you open the case, take out the headphones, and close it again, here you actually work with it.
You check notifications, change settings, work with AI features in combination with the companion app from Anker, use voice control, and suddenly you find yourself taking your phone out of your pocket less often than before.

The AI features deserve special attention. For example, the manufacturer offers AI Note-Taker, which can take notes from meetings and then synchronize them with the phone.onem. Of course, this is not something that every user will use, but during work meetings I appreciated several times that I do not have to constantly switch between applications or make quick notes manually. In addition, everything works in Czech and thanks to the possibility of connecting AI functions for summarizing the recording and similar adjustments, a person has access to thoughts quickly, easily and clearly, which would otherwise be much more laborious to record.
There is also a real-time translator, thanks to which you can chat with practically anyone, as it supports more than a hundred languages, including Czech. There are two versions of the translator available. The first works in real time, when the phone records sound and the headphones immediately translate it into the language of your choice. The second uses face-to-face mode, when one person speaks into the case, the other into the phone, and the communication is automatically translated to both parties. For someone who is not completely confident with foreign languages abroad, this is one of the most interesting features of the entire product, in my opinion.
Equally interesting are the smart notifications. The case can inform you of various events during the day, remind you of tasks, or display important information without having to check your phone. Again, it's a small thing, but it's precisely these little things that create the feeling that you're using something other than regular headphones.
The quality of phone calls was also a pleasant surprise. Anker boasts a lot about its ability to separate voice from surrounding noise, and I have to admit that this time it's not just marketing. I called from a busy street, a train station, and a shopping mall, and the other party repeatedly praised the clarity of the voice. Even with a very quiet conversation or almost a whisper, the headphones were able to transmit voice surprisingly well.
Regarding ANC, I honestly wouldn't say it's the best noise cancellation I've ever heard, but it's definitely among the absolute top. InancIt can practically eliminate the monotonous noise of air conditioning, significantly reduce track noise on the train, and pleasantly dampen the noise of the surroundings when walking through the city.
The sound is a separate chapter. Liberty 5 Pro Max They don't sound impressive at first glance like some competing headphones that want to impress you with exaggerated bass. Their sound is much more balanced and calmer than, for example, the AirPods. There is enough bass, but it does not overwhelm the mids or highs. Even so, I enjoyed listening to music practically regardless of the genre, perhaps thanks to the personalization options, thanks to which you can very well adjust the resulting sound character according to your own preferences. So if you are a gamer, I think you can tune the sound perfectly to your liking.

Not everything is perfect, of course. I consider the display in the case to be a fantastic gadget that significantly expands the possibilities of use. At the same time, however, it is necessary to take into account that it is precisely because of it that the case becomes a much more sophisticated device than just a regular charger. The case logically no longer fulfills the role of protecting and charging the headphones, but functions as a separate gadget that expands the functions of the entire product. And this is also associated with greater sensitivity to possible damage. In short, a person approaches it a little differently than a regular plastic case AirPods that you just throw in your pocket and don't really care about the hair on them.
But if I had to summarize my impression of the testing in one sentence, I would not be afraid to say that Anker managed to show that wireless headphones can be much more than just a device for listening to music. The sound is excellent, but the AI functions and the overall work with the case attract so much attention that you paradoxically find yourself thinking of the sound as the second most interesting thing about the entire product. And I don't mean that in a derogatory way. On the contrary. These functions are also so interesting and well-crafted that they simply deserve to be one of the main draws of the entire product.
Perhaps most telling is the fact that when I returned to the AirPods Pro, I had a strange feeling for a few days. As if I was returning to something surprisingly ordinary. Not worse, perhaps, AirThe Pods are still great headphones, but simply for the less ambitious. Liberty 5 Pro Max They offer a number of features that you will quickly love while using them and will start to miss when you return to classic headphones. Whether it is real-time translation, AI meeting notes or smart control via the case display, these are the features that I will miss when I return to AirThe Pods started to go missing surprisingly quickly.
