Music streaming services today stand and fall mainly on how well they can recommend other content. In fact, this is exactly why I personally prefer Spotify to Apple Music, since I have a solution from Applu in this respect simply does not suit as much as its Swedish competitors. However, it should be noted that Spotify has long been very aware of this fact and at the same time still wants to raise its level. Spotify's algorithms have been analyzing what you listen to, when you listen to it and how often you return to certain music for years, and now the company is testing a new feature that is supposed to give users much more control over recommendations.

The new feature is called Taste Profile and basically works a bit like personalization in AI chatbots. Instead of the app just passively monitoring your habits, you can tell it what music it should prioritize or suppress. In other words, you can tell Spotify everything much more precisely. What's interesting is that thanks to this feature, the service also shows how it actually "sees" your musical taste. Profil combines everything you listen to in the application and then uses this data to create a fairly detailed picture of what genres, artists, or moods you prefer.
An interesting addition is that you can actively intervene in all this. For example, if you find that the application is increasingly recommending you 90s alternative rock or hip-hop with strong influences from other styles, you can let it know if this is the direction it should go in. You can also say that a certain style is simply too much for you. Spotify will then use this information when compiling recommendations on the main page of the application. Instead of purely algorithmic decisions, your own preferences will also be given more space.

However, it should be noted that this is still in the testing phase. Taste function Profile is currently only available in beta version and will be tested first by Spotify Premium subscribers in New Zealand. However, if the testing proves successful, it can be expected to gradually expand to other countries and quite quickly. Moreover, given that it is not that complicated after all, we could see this new feature released to the public relatively quickly. What's more, Spotify seems to be working more and more intensively on similar improvements lately. For example, it recently added features aimed at better playlist sound or recommendations audiobooks. Taste Profile can be the next step towards the application offering content even more precisely tailored to what a specific user really likes.
