Apple this week introduced a new MacBook Neo, which has the ambition to become the most affordable laptop on offer Applu. The starting price suggests that it is aimed mainly at students, schools or ordinary users who want macOS at the lowest possible price. From a technical point of view, however, it is interesting for one more reason – it is the first Mac in history to use an A-series chip, i.e. the same architecture as Apple used in iPhonech.

Specifically, inside is A18 Pro, chip known from iPhone 16 Pro. Apple This is the first time that a mobile processor has been brought to a Mac. While it is more than enough power for everyday tasks, this step also brings certain limitations. One of them is support for external monitors. MacBook The Neo can only connect one external display with max4K resolution at 60 Hz.

The laptop therefore works without any problems with regular 4K monitors connected via USB-C. In practice, this means that you can use, for example, affordable displays from LG, Dell or Samsung, which are quite common on the market today. The port solution is also interesting. MacBook The Neo has two USB-C toonewhich, but only one of them supports DisplayPort 1.4 for connecting an external monitor. Specifically, it's the port closer to the back of the laptop. Thunderbolt is completely absent here, which is another difference compared to more expensive Macs.

In theory, it could be possible to connect a second monitor using adapters using DisplayLink technology, as is the case with some other Macs with limited display capabilities. However, it is not yet confirmed how well this solution will work with this particular model. MacBookat Neo.

The laptop itself is 13″ Retina The display has a resolution of 2408 × 1506 pixels and a pixel density of 219 ppi, so it offers a sharp enough image for everyday work even without an external monitor. MacBook Neo is available for pre-order now and will officially go on sale on March 11. If Apple with this model they are really targeting a new group of users, in my opinion it could be a very interesting entry into the world of Macs.
