The world of video streaming companies was shaken to its foundations today, and it was really noticeable. Netflix officially announced a few dozen minutes ago that it is buying Warner Bros. Discovery. Everything is to take place as part of a package of studios worth an incredible $82,7 billion, which makes Netflix one of the largest streaming deals in history.
With this move, Netflix is essentially taking control of some of the most valuable entertainment franchises in the world by the minute. The DC Universe, Game of Thrones, and more are joining its portfolio.onewith, Harry Potter, Looney Tunes, but also the complete Warner Bros. archive. Netflix promises that Warner Bros. as studio will preserve and not take away its traditional film release, which is a pleasant assurance for all those who have not yet given up on cinema.

The big topic is, of course, HBO. Netflix, perhaps surprisingly for many, is not going to bury the brand, but on the contrary, wants to preserve it as a separate service, at least for the foreseeable future. At the same time, however, it plans to gradually integrate films and series under its own catalog, so the question is what will actually be left of HBO. But it is already certain that Netflix is preparing for a step that will rewrite the form of how we are used to consuming the premium series universe.
As for the transaction itself, there are currently a few interesting details available about it. For example, Warner Bros. Discovery shareholders will receive $23,25 in cash and $4,50 in Netflix shares for each share they hold. The entire deal is expected to close within 12 to 18 months, but only if the previously announced spin-off of Discovery Global into a separate company is completed. In addition, everything still needs to be approved by regulators, which is usually the slowest part of such mega-acquisitions. After all, let's remember the lengthy purchase of the Acti studiovision-Blizzard MicrosoftBut if everything works out, the streaming world is in for a huge change, with Netflix emerging as king.
