The heat wave now plaguing Europe is causing problems just about everywhere. In addition to collapsing people, melted roads or even overheated means of transport, the heat is also starting to cause major problems in the data centers of Google and Oracle.
Data centers are hot due to their computing power, which generates waste heat, even under normal conditions. The current heat wave is an extreme stress test for them, which is testing their cooling systems to the limit. In the case of some European data centers of Google and Oracle, these have already failed, as they simply could not provide the necessary cooling and overheated due to the heat. Because of this, the companies had to turn off some of the hardware in them to prevent damage, which can cause certain problems for users in the form of unavailability of some services and so on. However, both companies are trying to put the cooling systems into operation so that their data centers can function. However, only time will tell whether this will be successful or not, because the heat wave is not expected to subside anytime soon, and if the cooling systems are designed for lower temperatures, it will be difficult for the companies to "kick them up" even in the current temperatures so that they make sense in terms of cooling.
