Company Apple owes a lump sum of $300 million to Optis Wireless Technology as damages for infringement of several patents. This is a reduced fine resulting from the reopening of proceedings for damages related to infringement of patents on wireless technology. After a four-day trial, a federal jury in East Texas decided on Friday.

A jury ruled in the same case in August 2020, finding that the company Apple infringed five wireless patents owned by Plano, Texas Optis, PanOptis, Patent Management, and Unwired Planet and awarded $506 million in damages. It also involved technologies found in iPhoneand other LTE-enabled products. The form of the verdict, however, Applu seemed too simplistic, and subsequently called for a retrial. U.S. District Judge Rodney Gilstrap upheld the finding and ordered a new trial in April. The reason was that the original jury was unable to determine whether the amount was consistent with Optis' obligation to license patents on fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms, which are typically required in standard essential patent cases. Another reason was insufficient evidence. Based on this information, the jury reduced the company's fine Apple to 300 million dollars. But the American giant is still not satisfied with the decision and plans to appeal.
“We thank the jury for their time, but we are disappointed with the verdict and plan to appeal. Optis doesn't make any products and its only job is to sue companies using the patents it collects. We will continue to resist their attempts to obtain unreasonable patent payments,” he said Apple in a statement to the agency Bloomberg. PanOptis and its aforementioned sister companies are non-practicing entities that hold patents and generate revenue through patent litigation, in other words patent trolls.
Whether they make something or not is irrelevant! The patent is theirs.. you should have bought it, you mammonist swine from Applu and they would pay another to you.
