A well-built house (well-insulated, designed on the right side of the world for good solar gains...etc) and an optimally set heating system does not need any such extraneous things. I turn on the boiler in the fall and turn it off in the spring. That is de facto the only manipulation. Any "night dimming" in such a house has no meaning. If I go on vacation for a week, the reduction in savings is so negligible that any further investment in the technologies mentioned (not only in this one) in the article has no return.
So the best thing is to invest in high-quality insulation, both for old houses and, of course, for new buildings.
