Today is very likely to be written in golden letters in space exploration. Scientists from the international project showed the world the first image of a black hole a short while ago, as expected. At the same time, they are still largely unknown to mankind.

While black holes are talked about quite often in science fiction movies and are often even used for example to travel through galaxies, the truth is that scientists really know very little about them. Even Albert Einstein predicted their existence, but scientists have not strayed too far from his hypothesis over the years. They deduced that black holes exist practically only from the way the universe behaves.

An international project is therefore attempting to answer at least a few questions about this mysterious phenomenon. Event Horizon Telescope, which includes observation stations from, for example, the USA, Chile, Mexico and Europe. This created a giant virtual telescope, thanks to which scientists were able to capture an image of the black hole located at the center of the Milky Way, which includes our solar system and therefore the Earth. According to scientists, the black hole located here is as large as the orbit of Mercury around the Sun. It is definitely not a tiny thing.

Black holes can be created, for example, by the explosion of a certain type of dying star. Their mass can then exceed up to several billion times the mass of the Sun, around which our planet orbits. These phenomena have such a strong gravity around them that they pull in everything around them - including light.
