A hacking group has emerged in North Korea that is said to be targeting large international companies. The North Korean group of spies and hackers reportedly has very sophisticated methods and tools, and can steal documents even from computers that are disconnected from the Internet. It is referred to by several names Reaper, The Labyrinth of Chollima or APT73.

Security firm FireEye has been tracking the hacking group and says it is expanding. However, Reaper appears to be nestIt is behind the 2014 cyberattack on Sony Pictures and last year's WannaCry ransomware campaign, which may be good news in some ways.

But according to FireEye, Reaper could become a global threat and should be taken seriously by governments and businesses. John Hultquist, director of intelligence analysis at FireEye, told CNN Tech that Reaper is ramping up its spying efforts on South Korean companies. The targets are multinational companies withancand infrastructure around the world.

Hultquist declined to name specific companies, but said they were Fortune 500 companies. Companies like LG Electronics, Hyundai and South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics fit the description. In addition, Hultquist said cyber attacks by the Reaper group are becoming more aggressive.

There is evidence that the group is expanding beyond North Korea, targeting targets in the Middle East, Japan and Vietnam.
