A rather bizarre problem has to be solved these days by the leadership of the US military. Its soldiers revealed the secret location of some guarded bases abroad through their careless actions.

The whole problem lies in the fact that American and many other soldiers serving in American military bases measured their daily activity and especially running through the running application Strav. They then willingly showed their results to the world on social networks, where practically everyone could see them. In addition to calories burned or kilometers walked and run, the shared results also showed the movement of soldiers on the map. And that is the most pressing problem. Because of the movement of soldiers, it was no longer a problem to locate their bases.
In addition to the exact location of the base, it was possible to read from the map, for example, which parts of the camp are most heavily guarded or, conversely, where it is safest to penetrate a certain area. However, this is a huge problem in the risk areas of Yemen, Somalia or Afghanistan, which can be compared to walking through a minefield. Enemies could get their hands on really detailed information that they could use in the blink of an eye.
Strava released their global heatmap. 13 trillion GPS points from their users (turning off data sharing is an option). https://t.co/hA6jcxfBQI … It looks very pretty, but not amazing for Op-Sec. US Bases are clearly identifiable and mappable pic.twitter.com/rBgGnOzasq

The management itself has a hand in it
Perhaps the biggest paradox of the whole problem is that the bracelets, thanks to which the movements of the soldiers are monitored, were purchased by the army itself for its men. She had been fighting their obesity in recent years, and watching their activity was supposed to motivate them and keep them in fighting condition. However, the initially noble plan deviated slightly from the main idea.

We'll see how the entire US military responds to this issue. However, since this is a truly large-scale problem involving tens of thousands of soldiers, we can expect a one-time recall of the bracelets for all soldiers or software modifications that would eliminate similar risks.miniwall.

Seize the mobile phone and hammer it with a 200-pound nail on the wall, right through the middle of the display. This is probably how they handle it in the Russian Navy. In time it can be a nice exhibition. :-)
Maybe you should read more than the title before commenting. The initial impulse and the main problem are the monitoring bracelets that were distributed to the soldiers by the army itself.
No!!! :-D Whoa... :-(
God, they're morons :D
it's a bit imprecise. The revealed location is derived from the "Heat map" that Strava makes of all the activities that users upload to it (can be banned), not from sharing on social media. sith
