Pancreatic cancer patients have a very low chance of survival. Only 9% of patients survived cancer in the last 5 years. The main reason is the late detection of the disease, because symptoms often only appear when it is already too late. The new BiliScreen application should help with this. She works to detect the level of bilirubin from the whites of the eyes using the smartphone's front camera. This is a much cheaper and simpler test than blood sampling.
It is not clear when the application will be available, anyway it should be presented at Ubicomp 2017 next month. Hopefully its success will be good enough to save some lives in the future.
