Apple is aware of its mistakes and has already managed to release a corrective update for the FaceTime desktop application. Alongside the users iOS 6 and older, even a few OS X users have started reporting problems with the FaceTime service on their Macs. We don't know why these errors occurred, but on the company's discussion forums Apple they have been and continue to be complained about by a large number of users. Prothe problem with FaceTime functionality on old systems is probably related to the Heartbleed bug, which poses a serious threat to server security.

Surprisingly though Apple only released an update on OS X, not on iOS. The FaceTime service currently only works on iOS 7.0 and later, leaving iPod touch 4th generation users cut off from this service. Users reported that the error appeared on devices with iOS 6, but I can confirm from personal experience that the problem with FaceTime also concerns the operating system iOS 5. It is not known whether Apple preparing a new update for iOS 6, but currently advises users iPhone 4 and others iOS devices to switch to the operating system iOS 7. The FaceTime for Mac update is intended primarily for OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard users.
