Things have been happening around Motorola lately. Since 2011, this brand has been under Google, and Google had big plans for it. But things have changed. Motorola continues to be a loss-making division, so Google decided to sell it. And it was bought by none other than the Chinese giant, which only recently bought the server division of IBM - Lenovo.
Motorola. A brand that was also among the top in the past, as was also the case with the Finnish Nokia. Before launch iPhone even collaborated with Apple on their shared phone ROKR. However, as time passed, Motorola declined and now, not even 3 years later, it is changing hands again. The original price for which Google bought Motorola in 2011 was 12,5 billion US dollars. However, Lenovo is buying the company "only" for $2,91 billion, of which $660 million will be paid immediately into Google accounts, another $750 million will be paid using Lenovo shares, and the remaining $1,5 billion will be paid over the next 3 years .
With the acquisition of Motorola, Lenovo significantly opened the door to the world of smartphones and phablets. By buying Motorola, Lenovo will get 2000 of Motorola's 10000 patents, as well as all its future projects such as Moto X, Moto G or DROID Ultra. Only time will tell if Lenovo made a similarly great move as it did in 2005 when it bought IBM's computer division, which subsequently put it at the top of several PC areas.
The reason for such a low price when selling Motorola to Google is precisely the fact that in 2011 Motorola was an important purchase for Google only from the point of view of its patents, which Google later used as arguments in court disputes over the Android operating system. Otherwise, Motorola reported annual losses of millions.
Romča, you're kind of crazy
