There's been talk of a LEGO version of the original PlayStation for some time now, but now we can practically put speculation behind us. Photos of the upcoming kit have leaked online, straight from the store, showing it in all its glory. And if you grew up with the first PlayStation like I did, this will be hard to ignore. Apparently, LEGO didn't just create a simple model of the legendary console, but a fairly elaborate model with an opening mechanism, a controller, and a few hidden surprises.

The new model is called LEGO 72306 Sony PlayStation and, according to leaked materials, it will consist of 1911 pieces. The price is listed in the photos at $160 and the release is scheduled for October 1, 2026. Even more interesting, however, is the size itself. The model is supposed to be about 26 centimeters wide and about 7 centimeters high, so LEGO tried to make the proportions very close to the real PlayStation.
In fact, just look at the photos to see that the designers really paid attention to the appearance. There is a characteristic gray finish, a huge circular drive cover, Power, Reset and Open buttons, ports for controllers and memory card slots. There is also a Sony logo and a colored PlayStation logo on the cover. In other words, there are details that are still associated with the original console today.
LEGO didn't forget about the legendary controller either
The kit will also include a classic PlayStation controller, in its original form without analog sticks. LEGO has even replicated its cable, which can be plugged directly into the front of the console. In my opinion, the controller gives the entire model that much-needed dose of nostalgia, because it simply wouldn't be the same without it.
But much more interesting things are hidden inside the PlayStation itself. According to leaked photos, the top lid can actually be opened, with LEGO hiding another part of the set underneath. An even bigger surprise, however, are the small gaming dioramas that can be slid out of the sides of the console. One of them refers to the legendary Gran Turismo, where we find minia realistic racing circuit with a car, a finish line and other details. On the other side, there is a colorful scene inspired by Ape Escape. LEGO conceived the model not only as a replica of the hardware, but also as a reminder of the games that are inextricably linked to the first generation of PlayStation.

The leak also confirms something we've previously reported: When you buy the kit, you'll get a free LEGO Astro Bot set, at least for a limited time. Specifically, it's supposed to be a classic gift with purchase, available while supplies last.
Of course, the photos come from a leak, so it's still possible that some information - especially the price - could change before the official launch. However, the existence of the kit itself is practically no longer a secret after these photos.
And I have to say, the result looks much better than I originally expected. 1911 pieces, almost real proportions, classic controller, opening mechanics and, above all, hidden dioramas of Gran Turismo and Ape Escape make LEGO PlayStation something more than just another gray box of blocks. For the generation that grew up on the original PlayStation, this may be one of the most interesting nostalgic LEGO sets of this year. And if the LEGO PS1 were to be joined in the future by, say, the Xbox, which I currently play on, I would be in seventh heaven.
And what's more, if there were really electronics there, you could connect it to a screen and play PlayStation 1 games on it.
