Why do you wear a smartwatch? Some people wear it to keep them updated on their phone, others to provide them with health metrics, and some are a combination of both. But what smartwatches can't do and probably never will do is measure their weight. And that's exactly what the Garmin Index S2 Smart Scale is perfect for.
All platforms, whether it's Applu, Samsung or even Garmin, offers the option to enter the value manually into the appropriate application. You weigh yourself on a classic scale and write the resulting number in the appropriate column. From this, other values can be calculated for you, including height and BMI. The first problem is that you have to do it manually and you easily forget, and the second is that you don't have that added value in the accompanying data.
On a smart scale Garmin Index S2 Smart Scale Just stand up, and that's all you have to do (although you have to at least move it to activate it). It will show you the appropriate values on the display, which it will then send via Wi-Fi to a connected phone with the app. Garmin Connect (after initial Bluetooth synchronization). That's actually the only limitation, but it's not necessarily a bad thing. In the case of Apple You can still work with just the Health app in the ecosystem, but this doesn't mean you have to own another Garmin device, although it is of course offered.
For family and sports team
After unpacking the scale, just insert the four included AAA batteries (depending on frequency of use, they can last up to 9 months), launch the app on your phone Garmin Connect and you step on the scale. It then assigns the metrics to your account. Another member of the household or sports team, or anyone else, launches their Connect app and steps on the scale again. Their values are then recorded in their account. This way, the scale can accommodate up to 16 people. When that person steps on it, the scale knows who they are and sends the data via Wi-Fi directly to their app.
For Garmin ecosystem users, Connect is the essential platform where they can find all the important metrics, information and activities. But you can also use it as a middleman and check all the measurements in Health. In Connect, just go to Settings -> Connected Apps and tap here Apple Health, where you activate the connection. The data the scale measures will be sent first to Connect, but Health will immediately take over from it, without you having to do anything. It works similarly with other platforms, e.g. Samsung Health etc. However, the connection with the app is important for the history. The scale itself shows progress over the past 30 days, but for longer trends you have to use your phone.
What does the Garmin Index S2 Smart Scale measure?
Weight is just one of the things the scale tells you (up to 181 kg). Other values the scale has measured rotate around the weight on the clearly visible display, including the weight trend. These include:
- BMI: If one of your goals is to lose weight, tracking your BMI is essential. It is used to estimate your overall body weight and determine whether you are overweight or underweight. It also helps you understand your risk of developing onepower depending on the amount of body fat. The smart scale calculates your BMI by dividing your weight in kilograms by the square of your height in meters.
- Body fat percentage: On the path to better fitness, it's important to realize that some body fat is beneficial to health - it plays a vital role in the overall functioning of the body, including digestion and metabolism. Essential and storage fat is key for thermoregulation and maintenance maximal energy for consistent training and exercise.
- Koslean muscle mass: For every athlete, building muscle is an important part of the process. However, we often confuse the growth of new muscle mass with fat when we see the number on the scale go up. But muscle has a higher density than fat. Thanks to the skeletal muscle mass measurement function, you will know exactly how much of your weight is growing muscle.
- Kosmaterial: To be stronger and protect ourselves from injury, our bones must be supplied with calcium. Vitamin D is an essential part of the diet for this. To keep track of the strength of your bones, the smart scale has a bone mass measurement function that tells you what proportion of your weight is made up of bones.
- Body water percentage: Hydration is important all year round, but it becomes even more important when the weather gets warmer and you're doing outdoor activities. To help you figure out how hydrated you are, the body water percentage feature calculates how much of your weight is fluid.
And here you have it too weather, so if you weigh yourself in the morning, you can immediately plan an activity. The scale also supports repeated weighing, so if you weigh yourself right after waking up and in the evening, you can also find these values in the Connect application (and possibly the connected one). By the way, the scale has the option to turn off recording of all data that you are not interested in and measure only the weight.
You can also find information about individual metrics in Connect, under the weight tab under the three dots in the top right corner of the help. Unfortunately, there are no ideal values that you should achieve. I would imagine that I could find ones tailored to you, because the application should know them, especially if you also wear a Garmin watch and do activities and training with them. This way, you actually only get a number that you have to work with further - so ideally, look up tables on the Internet to see for what age, gender and height the given values are ideal or borderline.
Why would you want a smart scale?
But the biggest power of a scale lies in interpreting the data, unless you share it yourself. While I use it primarily to keep track of my stable weight and to see if I'm burning muscle rather than fat when I exercise, my wife has the opposite goal. Because of her eating problems, every extra kilo is critically important to her, and the Index S2 has become an invaluable aid in her efforts to gain weight healthily.
The scale gives her a clear picture of what her gains are made of. She can see if she is building muscle mass or improving bone density, an often overlooked but key parameter in malnutrition. Garmin Index S2 is extremely precise in this regard – in the application and on the display, you literally deal with every 100 grams. For some, it may be an unnecessary detail, but for someone in the process of convalescence and weight gain, it is a huge psychological boost. Every tenth move forward is immediately recorded in the trend graph, which motivates you to continue progressing in your diet.
This one variability makes the Index S2 a family device. While a quick glance at the evening trend is enough for me to “check off” the metric in Connect, for my wife it is a diagnostic tool that confirms that her efforts are bearing fruit. The ability to track her body water percentage is another important indicator for her whether her weight gain is real or just temporary hydration.

Smart scales as the next logical step
The Garmin Index S2 Smart Scale isn't just "another scale." It's the missing link in the ecosystem for anyone serious about tracking their health, whether they live in the Garmin ecosystem or elsewhere. But if you already have a scale on your wrist, Fenixy, Forerunnery, Venu or Vívoactive or other watches, purchasing this scale is a completely logical step to automate data collection without having to manually rewrite anything.
Sure, there are cheaper smart scales on the market, but few offer such seamless Wi-Fi syncing and such deep ecosystem integration. Whether you're trying to maintain your weight, shed those extra pounds, or fight for every 100 grams you gain, the Index S2 provides you with data that's accurate, clear, and most importantly, instantly available where you need it.
It is an investment in your health that will not show you ideal values in the tables, but it will give you all the tools to work towards them. And what better way to recommend the product than by the fact that it appealed to me so much during testing that I decided to try it.onecz test I don't return it but on the contrary I like to buy it. Garmin Index S2 Smart Scale costs 3,590 CZK and is available in white or black.
You want to Garmin with 10% discount? You can use it on the entire range (except for already discounted goods and the latest models introduced in recent weeks). Just enter the code SM10 in the cart.
I had this scale for about a week and returned it. Prehistoric way of updating FW, bad recognition of multiple users, three measurements of one person at a time and quite different values. Even though I like Garmin things, even the cheapest Xiaomi scale measures better here unfortunately :-/
I've had this scale for about 5 years now. I'm keeping it only because I feel bad throwing it away and I don't have the conscience to sell it to someone else. It can measure weight, but the rest of the values are pure speculation on the scale's part. I compared the results with the more accurate inBody and the difference in body fat is 3%, skeletal muscle mass is maybe 1 kg. Big mistake. Better to buy a bitch from Alza for 500 and accept the fact that I won't have absolutely wrong statistics in Connect.
Absolutely tragic product. Inaccurate metrics and a crazy price. I have a Garmin watch and the purchase was a really logical step, but I highly recommend it to everyone else. Re-weighing after five minutes is a difference of even 1kg. In other values, these are only estimates with a huge fluctuation in measurements.
