The US Mint officially launched the sale of the new one-dollar coin from the prestigious American Innovation series, which features the likeness of Steve Jobs, on Tuesday, May 12. However, the interest from collectors completely exceeded all expectations, and the entire California part of the series hopelessly sold out in just eleven minutes.

The new coin is part of a 2026 set that celebrates significant innovations in four U.S. states. In addition to its home state of California, the coin also includes Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. The California commemorative coin was designed by designer Elana Hagler and features a detailed depiction of a young Steve Jobs against a backdrop of oak-covered hills. It also features the inscriptions “Steve Jobs" and the famous slogan "Make Something Wonderful". The other side of the dollar traditionally features the Statue of Liberty with the motto "In God We Trust". On the edge we find the year of mintage, the mint mark and the famous phrase "E Pluribus Unum".
The launch of sales via the Mint's website kicked off at noon. And the American institution severely underestimated the demand for the apple co-founder. Within a moment, all California packages were showing signs of immediate unavailability. Both the bags with a hundred coins for $154,50 (7,800 pieces were available) and the smaller rolls of twenty-five coins for $61 (a total of 18,150 pieces) sold out in a flash. All this despite the fact that purchases were strictly limited to maxat least ten pieces per household.
I think the lightning sale of this commemorative coin is clear evidence of the enormous and enduring cult of personality he has created around himself. Steve Jobs build. For dedicated fans and collectors, such an item has incalculable emotional value. And who knows how much these coins will sell for in time.
