The PID Lítačka application is entering the next stage of its development. After almost eight years of operation, its new generation, PID Lítačka 2.0, is being created. The rewrite of the application is sponsored by Operátor ICT, a municipal company of the capital city of Prague, which has long ensured the development of key digital services for transport in Prague and the Central Bohemian Region.

"A modern urban mobility application must be attractive, keep up with the times and meet all the demanding requirements of its users. It has maintained a high user rating among passengers for years and is increasingly the application of first choice for finding connections and paying for parking. However, the current form of the application is reaching its limits. In order to be able to add new functions to the application, we decided to invest significantly in its development. A similar process can be observed, for example, in the case of the continuous development of banking applications. This investment will definitely pay off and in the long term will bring savings to the city. In the future, it will be possible to order on-demand transport, pay for electric vehicle charging fees, predict delays in public transport connections, search for barrier-free connections and combine various types of public transport, including connections to barrier-free lifts. The application will also recommend the most suitable metro car for faster exit, make it easier to purchase and activate tickets, and much more."," says Jaromír Beránek, First Deputy Mayor of Prague for Transport.

"Transport info nestWe are constantly moving forward in this field, but we are also facing a number of fundamental challenges. Some of them we can predict with absolute accuracy based on the available data. And some are difficult to predict, and we must be prepared for them. The ICT Operator is therefore expected to create digital tools that will stand the test not only today, but also in the future - and can flexibly respond to new, as yet unclear requirements"," adds Deputy Jaromír Beránek.

PID Lítačka was originally created primarily as an application for purchasing tickets and simply searching for connections. Over time, however, its role has grown significantly. Today it serves as a comprehensive digital tool for traveling within the entire Prague Integrated Transport system. It allows searching for door-to-door connections in the context of other transport applications in the Czech Republic at the highest level, purchasing long-term coupons, paying for parking, navigating connection maps, or combining different modes of transport according to the passenger's preferences.

"Pro Středočeský kraj je důležité, aby nové formy dopravy byly pro cestující co nejjednodušší. Zapojení poptávkové dopravy (PID Haló) přímo do PID Lítačky je nezbytným krokem pro to, abychom byli schopni tuto službu ve Středočeském kraji nabízet rozvíjet. Nová PID Lítačka musí být také schopna aplikovat tolik potřebné budoucí zjednodušení tarifů, stejně jako moderní způsoby odbavování cestujících"," adds Petr Borecký, councilor for public transport and mobility of the Central Bohemian Region.

The development of PID Lítačka 2.0 pursues two main goals. The first is to create a technologically robust and flexible platform that can be developed and modified in the future without jeopardizing its stability and smooth operation. Thanks to this, the application will be able to respond effectively to technological developments, innovations, and the changing needs of users and the city. The second goal is to make everyday use of the application more enjoyable. "PID Lítačka 2.0 will not change the way people use the application. It will retain key features, while expanding and modernizing them. This will improve user comfort and the overall quality of the service."," says Daniel Mazur, Councilor for ICT and Smart City, Science, Research and Innovation. The new version is being created gradually and individual parts are continuously tested with users to meet the real needs of passengers in Prague and the Central Bohemian Region.

"PID Lítačka has grown significantly over its existence. This is mainly due to the constant addition of functions and improvements to the application design. It is currently used by around 200 thousand unique users per day and has a total of around 2 million users. Year-on-year increases in users are around 20-30 percent. Today, it is a key part of the daily travel of hundreds of thousands of people. However, as with any other application, technologies have their lifespan, especially those that are constantly developing. Rewriting is a necessary step to make the application stable, secure and ready for further development"," says Benedikt Kotmel, member of the board of directors of Operátor ICT.

In addition to more modern and clearer controls, the new version will also bring some long-requested features, including:

  • dark mode, which users have been calling for for a long time,
  • recommending the ideal subway car,
  • the possibility of purchasing and activating multiple tickets at once,
  • easier parking work, including the possibility of ending it early.

A fundamental emphasis is also placed on searching for connections, which remains the most used function of the application. In 2025 alone, over 109 million connections were searched for via PID Lítačka. The new version of the application will offer greater clarity and a better combination of different modes of transport without changing the basic principle of searching for connections for users.

PID Lítačka 2.0 is being prepared with a view to the further development of public transport in the region. From 2027, it will also become a tool for the use of on-demand transport in the Central Bohemian Region, which will be directly part of the application.

The current version of PID Lítačka will remain fully functional until the new generation replaces it with a regular update. This will ensure a smooth transition for users without the need for any intervention.
