Measuring temperature and humidity is something that everyone deals with these days. But most of the time, it ends up with a small plastic sensor without a display that hangs on the wall somewhere and you only remember it when you get a notification that it's dry or stuffy at home. However, the Meross MS130 does it a little differently. Not only does it measure more things than most of its competitors, but it also makes sense as a standalone device that you can just look at and immediately know how your home climate is. And since this piece recently arrived for me to try out, it's time to introduce it to you.

Display and accuracy play a key role

At first glance, the main attraction is the large 3,7″ display, which you will appreciate when you place the sensor on a shelf in the living room, on a chest of drawers in the bedroom or in the basement. Everything is readable on it even from a distance and you don't have to reach for your phone to find out the current temperature, humidity or time. The display shows not only basic values, but also the ambient light intensity, battery status, date or connection indication. Everything is clear, without unnecessary graphic frills, which is simply great for this type of device.

But of course, the main thing happens inside. The Meross MS130 uses a seamlesscarfourth-generation sensors, which is not just a marketing slogan. The accuracy of ±0,1 °C for temperature and ±2% for humidity is above standard in this category and in practice this is noticeable mainly during long-term monitoring. The values do not fluctuate, they match the values measured by other devices and are well suited for automation or monitoring of more sensitive areas.

In addition to temperature and humidity, the sensor also monitors dew point, saturated vapor pressure difference, and light intensity. These are data that an average user might not check daily, but when you're dealing with mold, ventilation, or perhaps ideal conditions for wine or plants, they start to make a lot of sense. Or they'll simply delight tech nerds who enjoy monitoring the environment at home. Personally, I really enjoy it.

Smart home without compromise

Meross is required for operation Matter Smart Hub, which needs to be taken into account when purchasing. On the other hand, thanks to this, the MS130 fits in without any problems Apple HomeGoogle Home, Alex and SmartThings. Thanks to the support Matter because in HomeKit(or rather, in the Home) behaves exactly as you would expect. The measured values are therefore in the native Apple They update the application reliably and you can use them directly in automations.

For example, you can set the dehumidifier to turn on when the humidity in the room exceeds a set limit. If the temperature in the bedroom drops below a certain level in the evening, a soft light will turn on or the heating will be turned on, and so on. Of course, everything runs in the background, without the need for constant troubleshooting and completely reliable.

Two buttons that make sense

A nice bonus are two physical buttons on the top of the sensor, which you can assign to scenes or specific devices from this manufacturer in the Meross application. With one press, you can easily turn off the smart socket, turn off the light or start the evening scene. When you don't want to hunt for your phone in your pockets, this is more useful than you might think. However, as I wrote above, these buttons are only compatible with Meross products, as they are only visible in its accompanying application. So if you don't have anything from this manufacturer at home, you won't be able to use the buttons. But if you do, you'll have fun. I set them to turn on and off the LED strip on the terrace, which I had only controlled via phone so far, so for me it's ideal.

However, I have to admit that it's a shame not to be able to set anything else to the buttons. For example, Philips Hue allows you to set the Dimmer Switch controls to HomeKitYou can do anything with the Hue button. The button is visible in the Home and is therefore compatible with the rest of your HomeKit products. But that's not the case here, and that's a shame.

What I like, on the other hand, is the little thing in the form of a vibrating display backlight, which you can activate by lightly tapping the shelf on which the station is standing. The sensitivity of the vibration sensor is very high, which is exactly the type of detail that you only notice during normal use and then start to miss in other devices.

Stamina that is forgotten

Power is provided by four AA batteries and Meross promises a battery life of up to three years, which is definitely great. After all, for me personally, the Meross MS130 definitely belongs to the category of devices where you don't want to deal with replacing batteries every few months, and here it really isn't necessary. You can safely place the sensor even where there is no socket - in the cellar, greenhouse or perhaps in the wine archive. I put it in the hallway on a shoe rack, where we lack a socket, but where we have been thinking about a clock, thermometer and hygrometer for a long time, so this toy fits in perfectly.

Working with data is also a big plus. The Meross application allows you to store measurement history for up to two years and the data can be exported. So if you are interested in the long-term development of temperature or humidity, or want to evaluate the efficiency of ventilation or insulation, this is a very practical function.

Summary

Meross MS130 is not just another thermometer with an app. It is a well-thought-out sensor that makes sense both as part of a smart home and as a standalone device with a large and clear display. It offers high accuracy, wide automation options, long battery life and features that you will appreciate only with long-term use. If you already have the Meross ecosystem at home, or are looking for a reliable sensor for HomeKit with support Matter, MS130 is a very good choice. And if you want to have the climate at home really under control, not just in an approximate way, but with data you can rely on, Meross has done a surprisingly good job here.
