After the September whirlwind of news in the form of iPhones, Apple Watch whether AirGet up Apple In the fall, there was another product whirlwind. This one is a bit smaller than the first one, but it is definitely interesting again. Last week, new MacBooky Pro, iPad Pro and Vision Pro equipped with the M5 chip. These new products went on sale on Wednesday, and I am slowly starting to test them. The first to come is iPad Prowhich, in contrast, MacBookThe Pro has a bit more in terms of new features. So let's unpack it together and then tell you how it affects you after a few hours of testing.
If you've seen iPad Pro packaging in recent years, you might be a little disappointed with this generation. Apple This time, they gave up on creativity and packed the new product in practically the same box they used for models with M4 chips. This ultimately means the absence of a charging adapter or a braided USB-C/USB-C cable in the same color as the device, which is a really nice detail. However, that's where the interestingness of the packaging (unfortunately) ends. On the other hand, does the packaging of something like this need to be interesting at all when the product itself, which is hidden in it, is a technological gem?
I specifically got the space black one. varianta in almost the best available configuration – i.e. with the M5 chip with a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU, 2TB storage and support for mobile data connection. The only thing missing from the imaginary top is nano-textured glass, which I do not have. However, as with previous generations, and therefore with MacBookIt is "just" a glass with a nanotexture precisely etched on a nanometric scale, which preserves image quality and contrast while scattering light from the environment so that there are even fewer reflections on the display surface. In the end, it depends on where you use the iPad and whether you use this gadget at all. But let's get back to the piece under test.
Of course, I will need much more time for any major evaluation, but I must say that although the tablet's dimensions have not changed between generations, when you take it out of the box and realize what power is hidden inside, the classic "wow" effect occurs. iPad Pro Because of its extraordinary thinness, it feels like a sheet of paper in the hand, with a bit of exaggeration, which will amaze every technology enthusiast as well as iPhone AirOf course, it's not just the body that's beautiful to look at, but also the display - OLED is simply a feast for the eyes.
The main thing that the new product has, however, is the M5 chip, supplemented in this configuration by 16 GB of RAM. Talking about speed is therefore largely unnecessary, because you kind of expect it from similar hardware. The speed with which the iPad launches all applications is truly sensational, as is loading more demanding games, switching between individual application windows during multitasking, and so on.
I personally plan to try iPad Pro use as the main workstation instead of mine MacBookThe Pro M3 with 8 GB of RAM, which still serves me very well, but in speed comparison with this iPad, it also does not catch up at all when launching applications. However, it must be said that we are talking about devices with different operating systems and animations in them, so such a comparison is quite unfair and therefore I do not want to give it much weight.
But what I won't forgive myself for now is praise Applu for how much iPadOS 26 has brought iPads closer to Macs in terms of working with windows. They now act de facto like macOS windows, so you can easily overlap them, adjust their size, minimalize, duplicate (in supported apps) and generally work on your iPad as you are used to. I am a notorious "saver" of files on the desktop, from which I then take everything further, which is not supported in iPadOS (yet), but it is great to see that if you adopt the philosophy Applu and you will learn to fully utilize applications such as Files, dragging and dropping photos and the like from one application to another is an extremely simple matter. And you don't have to limit yourself to this, you can also write notes in another window, reply to emails in another and have everything at hand.
So far, I've only had a few apps open at the same time on the new iPad, I guess. maxat least 6, but that I would be limited in performanceonem or RAM, I definitely can't say. Everything ran smoothly and actually the only thing that hindered productivity was the size of the display, which is of course clear. However, when I think about it and realize how gracefully the iPad is able to work with multiple windows thanks to the improved iPadOS 26 and how smooth the system is overall, it's simply a joy.
So my first impressions of the iPad Pro M5 are really good so far, although they are of course based on a relatively short test. I'm all the more curious to see what the new product will allow me to do in the coming weeks and perhaps even to see if I can get aonec I can imagine switching from macOS to iPadOS in full form.
Your iPad configuration has 16GB of RAM (1 and 2 TB versions), up to 512 and 12, which is a step up from the M4 which has 8GB.
That's right, thanks for pointing out the stupid transcription 🙈 especially since I was looking at the configurator while writing and it still ended up like this 😄
So I'm just very curious about what his work will be like with Voiceover. I am blind and I find the iPad a fantastic tool, whether for browsing the Internet or reading the news or working with Numbers, or other text applications. I was a bit sorry for the previous models, that when I was working with Voiceover, if I switched between windows, it was a bit shaky in places. So I believe that things will go up here as well.
I didn't notice in the text if it was 11" or 13" varianta
If you have also purchased magic keyboard, I recommend trying Jump Desktop for access on macOS. I have macbook in the charger with sleep disabled and after connecting it, the iPad becomes a solid Mac :-) iPadOS has improved a lot, but sometimes I can't do without macOS (full word, outlook etc.).
