If you're looking for portable storage that offers not only huge capacity but also exceptional performance, the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is a choice you'll definitely love. In this review, I'll focus on the 8TB version, a capacity that's suitable not only for power users but also for professionals who need reliable and fast storage for large amounts of data. During testing, I focused not only on the drive's performance, but also on its compatibility with various devices, including the iPhone and Android.

SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD 1

The first thing you'll notice about the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is its compact design. During testing, I appreciated how well the drive is made - the robust rubberized surface is not only pleasant to the touch, but also provides high durability. Although I didn't plan on doing any extreme handling with it during testing, I dropped it several times onto a hard surface from a normal working height without any damage. The rubberization ensures that the drive won't get scratched and will still look like new even when carried frequently.

In addition to being durable, the drive is also compact. At 100 x 54 x 9,6 mm, it is ideal for everyday carrying, as it fits into any bag or backpack without taking up too much space. While its size is certainly not the smallest, it is still a very portable device in its class.

Performance and capacity

During testing, I focused primarily on performance and data transfer speed, which is absolutely crucial for portable SSDs. The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is equipped with USB 3.2 Gen 2 and offers read speeds of up to 1050 MB/s and write speeds of up to 1000 MB/s. To verify this speed, I tested the transfer of several large files - such as 4K videos and Adobe Premiere Pro projects - and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. The transfers were very fast, without any slowdowns, even when I tried to transfer files over 100 GB in size. However, it is important to remember that the above read and write speeds are maximal and therefore changes over time.

The biggest advantage of this SSD, however, is its capacity. When I tested the 8TB version, I found that it can handle even huge amounts of data without any problems. I used this drive not only for transferring videos and photos, but also for working with large data sets and backing up large projects. Whether you need to transfer 4K videos or plan to archive a huge amount of data, the 8TB version is the ideal choice for those who do not want to limit anything.

In terms of security, the drive is offered by SanDisk SecureAccess, which allows you to encrypt files with 128-bit AES encryption. I used this tool to protect sensitive data, and here too I appreciated the ease of use – everything worked smoothly and without complications.

Older vs. newer versions. It's incredible how small a body you can cram 8TB of storage into these days.

During testing, I wanted to see how well the compatibility with mobile devices works, as it is increasingly important to have access to files on your phone or tablet. The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is compatible with both iPhonem, so with Android.

In the case of the iPhone, the SSD works seamlessly with the native Files app and you can also record or save footage from your phone's camera to it - of course, when connected via cable. On Android, I also used the USB-C cable that comes with the package, and again everything worked smoothly. Data transfers between phonesoneand SSDs ran without any problems.
