There has been speculation for several years that Apple is working on its own foldable device. While competitors led by Samsung and Huawei already have foldable phones on the market, Apple is holding back for now. However, according to recent reports and indications from several credible analysts, it seems that the foldable iPhone and perhaps other devices in this category are indeed on the way – and perhaps sooner than we expect.

Analyst Jeff Pu of GF Securities recently stated that Apple has two foldable devices in development: one with a 7,8-inch display that could rival a foldable iPhone, and the other with a giant 18,8-inch panel. Both products have reportedly advanced to the so-called NPI (New Product Initiative) stage. Product Introduction), which means that Apple is testing early production prototypes with its partner Foxconn. Mass production could begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, according to Pua — and if all goes well, the foldable device could hit the market as early as late next year.

While the smaller, phone-like format is being talked about quite specifically, the larger foldable device raises more question marks. Analysts disagree on whether it will be a foldable iPad, MacBook or a completely new hybrid type of device. Pu, as well as renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, talk about a device similar to MacBooku – meaning with macOS support and a focus on work. But Mark Gurman claims that this is a foldable iPad with a 20″ screen, which should not arrive until 2028.

KoneThe actual device name will likely be determined by the operating system: if it's macOS, it's a Mac, and if it's iPadOS, it's an iPad. Some information suggests that Apple is moving towards some unification of the two systems, which could lead to the creation of a completely new hybrid product with touch control.

Unlike the confusion surrounding the larger model, information about the foldable iPhone is starting to come together. Most sources agree that Apple is aiming to launch this model in 2026. It will likely be a so-called “book-style” device, i.e. a phone that opens like a book – similar to Galaxy Z Fold from Samsung. Will it offer support for Apple Pencil, what will its dimensions be, and how Apple What the foldable display will solve in terms of durability remains a question.
