With the arrival iOS 18.4 Apple expanded feature support Apple Intelligence in eight other languages besides English. However, some users are facing a problem – the function Apple Intelligence It doesn't offer them any options in the settings of their iPhones, iPads, or Macs. This may be because their devices were originally purchased in China.

Apple Intelligence does not work on Chinese devices

Since release iOS 18.1 was a function Apple Intelligence available only in US English. While most users were able to try out the new features by simply changing their language and region, there were two exceptions: the European Union and China. While in the EU, the version iOS 18.4 the situation has changed and support has been expanded, China remains without access to this technology.

This also impacts users outside of China if they purchased a device from that country. Apple officially states that Apple Intelligence does not work on supported devices purchased in China – even if the user is now in another country and has changed the region settings.

According to the experiences of some users who brought a new iPhone from China, it is not Apple Intelligence available, even after updating to the latest software and changing all regional settings.

How to find out where yours comes from iPhone?

There is a way to verify if your device comes from the Chinese market:

  • Open the Settings app.
  • Click on General.
  • Select Information.
  • Find the Model Number item.

If the model number ends with "CH/A", it means the device was manufactured for the Chinese market and features Apple Intelligence will not be available on it.

What now?

Apple partnered with the Chinese company Alibaba to enable support Apple Intelligence for users in China. According to agency reports Bloomberg Apple is working on a system that will ensure its AI features comply with local legislation.

It is expected that by Apple officially launches Apple Intelligence in China, devices purchased in that country will be able to use the feature abroad. Until then, however, owners of these iPhones have no choice but to wait.
