Owners AirPods Max s USB-C portem have reason to rejoice again from tonight. After Apple on Monday, it released firmware for these headphones that enabled lossless audio support, only to later pull it due to installation problems, but it has now released a new version that should be installable without any problems. So if you have AirPods Max with USB-C, you should be able to upload the new firmware to them. 

While Monday's firmware was labeled 7E99, the current one is labeled 7E101. However, in terms of content, they should be identical software, and the only difference should be that the newly released one contains a fix for a bug that prevented installation in the original firmware.

Update to the latest version iOS (lossless audio on USB-C AirPods Max requires iOS 18.4 or macOS 15.4).

  1. Connect AirPods via Bluetooth to iPhone, iPad or Mac.
  2. Make sure your device is Apple connected to Wi-Fi.
  3. Connect headphones AirPods to the charger.
  4. AirPlace the Pods in the case and leave them near the device for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Put on your headphones. AirPods and check the firmware version again.
