iOS 18.4 brought quite a lot of new things to iPhones. I'm not talking "just" about the features. Apple Intelligence in the European Union or the arrival of new emojis, but also about a relatively controversial new feature in the settings, which is causing a lot of controversy, especially on social networks and discussion forums.

Specifically, we are talking about a new toggle for “Improving location accuracy”, which is available in Privacy & Security – Location Services – System Services. This feature was not available in the system, or could not be deactivated. However, it is possible that it Apple has been in the system for a long time and only now has it decided to allow users to deactivate it. If you are wondering what this setting affects, according to the words AppiPhones with this feature enabled "regularly send the geo-location of nearby WiFi hotspots and mobile operator transmitters in anonymous and encrypted form to Applu so that it can then use them to expand the crowd database of WiFi hotspots and mobile transmitters, which should overall help to locate the user's location faster.

However, the faster location detection combined with the fact that this item is turned on by default is a thorn in the side of some Apple fans, who point out that this is a controversial issue and another attempt by the government to better track users. After all, location services can help, for example, rescue services in finding callers and so on. On the other hand, if (not only) Apple more transparent in this regard, perhaps it would avoid similar speculations on the Internet. In any case, turning off this setting is not worth much, because since it is turned on by default, many other devices provide the precision of the space around you. And whether you have the function activated or not is quite irrelevant, because it will not affect anything in the end - not even your search.
