Since the second half of January this year, have you been using your ID card on your mobile phone to prove yourself at the authorities, during police checks and the like? Excellent, then you are one of more than half a million Czechs who already use this solution. Just a few hours ago, Czech Deputy Prime Minister for Digitalization Ivan Bartoš boasted about crossing the threshold of half a million users of eDocuments.

Bartoš specifically wrote on his official profile on X: "Exceeded magicThe number is half a million users.  More than half a million people already have Citizen on their mobile phone! 506 people currently use the eDoklady application, thanks to which you can have your ID on your mobile phone. And more are added every day. It is "taken" by the police, a worker, a financier, but also many private individuals. You can use the citizen card on your mobile in more than a thousand places! Specifically, 205 organizations, offices and companies can already accept EDocuments." For the sake of completeness, we would like to add that in the Czech Republic, support for female citizens on mobile phones officially started on January 20, when the first authorities began accepting it. However, it was available for download on phones from the evening of Friday, January 19, when it appeared in App Store a Google PlayWhether half a million users in just over 7 months is a lot or a little is up to each person to decide for themselves. The fact is, however, that in 4 months the last wave of support for mobile ID cards will be launched in the Czech Republic, thanks to which it will be possible to prove your identity through them, for example in banks, at the post office or at elections.

Other public authorities and private individuals

Public authorities and such private persons who are required by law to verify someone's identity or other personal data. For all categories, they can voluntarily accept eDocuments even before the date set for them. From January 1, 2025, you will be able to prove your citizenship on a mobile phone, for example, at:

  • precinct election commission
  • schools, colleges
  • by their health insurance.
  • banks
  • notaries, executors
  • municipalities I. and II. degrees
  • municipal police of municipalities I. and II. degrees
  • post
  • state enterprises
  • embassies
  • contribution organizations
