In today's review, we will look at a very interesting, but mainly cheap HoloTag locator from Cube.nest/HoloMarq. Since I am a big fan of these gadgets, I couldn't help but test it out.chat Let's get to it.

Technical Specifications

As you can probably guess from the title of this review, HoloTag is a locator with support for Apple's Find location network. In other words, just like AirThe tag can be tracked via HoloTag Find, but it can also be completely managed, both in terms of changing the name and emoji, and in terms of activating Lost mode (in case of loss, HoloTag can display a message you created on another device, for example with your contact details), setting a notification for a forgotten item, or playing a sound for easier retrieval. In fact, the only functional difference between HoloTag and AirThe tag lacks a U1 chip and therefore the inability to find the HoloTag via local search – that is, an arrow on the iPhone display that will very accurately navigate you directly to the locator. However, it is appropriate to add here that ultrathe U1 broadband chip does not offer any other locator than AirTag because you like it Apple held exclusively for him. So there's really no need to be angry with HoloTag in this regard.

However, what HoloTag does not lack is a built-in speaker, or rather a buzzer, through which it can make itself known very loudly. Its volume reaches 60db, so you can be sure that you will not just miss it. If you are interested in the dimensions, they are 44 x 37,2 x 10,5 mm, and unlike AirThe HoloTag tag also has an "eyelet" through which you can thread a key ring, for example, and attach the locator to it without the need for a key chain or similar accessories. The locator itself is made of black matte plastic, is dust and water resistant according to IP67 and weighs only 7 grams. It is powered by a replaceable CR2032 battery, and communicates with iPhones and other Apple Bluetooth 5.1 devices. Of course, certification from Applu for full compatibility with the Najít network. And the price? A pleasant 399 CZK per piece, or 699 CZK for two pieces or 1299 CZK for four pieces.

Processing and design

Although the HoloTag is available at a really reasonable price, you definitely don't have to worry about its processing being fair. The truth is that it is exactly the opposite. In short, high-quality hard plastic with a matte surface is a guarantee of quality. If I were to evaluate the design, it is of course a matter of taste, but for me it is successful. In short, the black body and rounded shapes will hardly offend on a backpack, bag, suitcase or other object.

Testing

Adding a HoloTag to Apple Finding it takes just a few seconds. In fact, all you need to do is open the Find My app on your iPhone, go to the Items section, and then select the “Add Another Item” option. This will start the locator search process on your iPhone, but in order for the HoloTag to be searchable, you need to pull out the plastic strip located between the battery and the gadget’s contacts. This will start the locator and then make it visible to iPhoneOnce this happens, all you have to do is iPhone "Finish" the rest of the settings (i.e. enter a name, icon, etc.) and you're done.

From the moment HoloTag appears in Find It, in this native app on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch or website andCloudto track its location. Here, of course, everything you are used to applies (except for the local search discussed above). AirTag – that is, if the locator is close to your iPhonem you can track its location in real time. As soon as the HoloTag goes out of range of your devices, it will start communicating with the Find network via a foreign Apple products through which it sends to iCloudIn the latter case, however, it is important to note that the HoloTag's location will be updated depending on how often it "meets" a foreign object. Apple device. So when I sent my girlfriend with it without a phone for a walk in the city, due to the many people around her, the location of the tracker was updated literally in units of minutes. But as soon as the tracker got to a place where there were significantly fewer people, its location was updated even less than once every half hour. However, I repeat that this is completely expected behavior, which is 100% matches the behavior AirTag.

You don't have to worry about HoloTag being used to track you. Just like in the case of AirTags or other locators, even HoloTags are searchable iPhones thanks to full compatibility with Find My, so if you had someone else's HoloTag with you and its owner was not nearby, your iPhone would alert you to the fact that you have it with you as potentially dangerous.

Summary

After a few days of testing, it's actually quite easy for me to evaluate HoloTag. It's a very reliable alternative to AirA great price tag that really only lacks the detail of a U1 chip. If its absence bothers you, then HoloTag is not for you. But I personally don't use it at all and AirI use tags, like all other locators, "only" to roughly track the location of my objects. And for these purposes, HoloTag is perfect - especially considering its great price. So if you are looking for a reliable locator with support Apple Find it at a low price, you just found it.
