For a long time, Samsung has been boasting about how its top models Galaxy S Ultra offer 100x zoom. In marketing, the company went for it by taking pictures of the Moon and yes, it works, although the question is what use such a photo will be to you. But do you even recognize what is captured in photos taken at 100x zoom?

The moon is not difficult for the camera AI to recognize. It is a slight exaggeration to say that it is a bright orb on a black background, unlike anything else commonly seen. And while each such photo is specific to the time and place it's taken, it's heavily edited by artificial intelligence to make it look real. However, this does not apply to ordinary scenes, which simply demonstrate how useless such digital zoom is. It doesn't matter if you use 100x zoom u Galaxy S21 Ultra or at the current Galaxy S24 UltraThe result is usually just as miserable.

This is of course because this is an extreme crop and this zoom is digital where the result is recalculated to full resolution. The poor quality of the result is also evidenced by how little data intensive the photo is. It's usually around 700KB in JPG format, even if it's 4 x 000 pixels. Well, if you can recognize what is included in the photos in the gallery below.

During the testing period Galaxy S24 Ultra I simply haven't come across a case where I would use such a zoom in practice. Of course, I tried to take a picture of the Moon, but the reason for that was only to see if the result had improved in any way over the years. Subjectively, it's still the same. Even though I criticize the Samsung's 100x zoom here, it's too much. nestoh no, not even the 25x iPhone 15 Pro MaxIn every respect, it simply applies, if possible, avoid digital.

In the gallery below you will find a comparison between the 10x (wannabe) optical and 100x digital zoom u Galaxy S24 Ultra, so that you can figure out what you didn't recognize in the first gallery. Samsung also opted for 5x optical zoom in its most equipped new product, as Apple on his iPhone 15 pro Max, when it "downgraded" it from a 10x zoom. But because the sensor is 50MPx, even the 10x zoom still works as an optical one, but it is helped by a lot of software tricks. However, it is true that the 10x zoom doesn't look that bad and we would certainly like it on iPhones. It is also worth adding that the Ultras also have a 3x telephoto lens.
