Meta has announced that it will reduce the spread of political content on its Instagram and Threads social networks. Meta CEO Adam Mosseri said the company doesn't want to proactively promote political content from accounts people don't follow. Therefore, unless you follow a politician, political party or movement, you should not see their promotion and opinions on these social networks.

However, if you follow someone who is politically engaged, you will still see their posts. Meta, however, did not say whether the restriction will only concern free distribution, i.e. the so-called algorithms in the feed that will recommend a given post to you, or whether it is also going to limit the sponsored posts of politicians and political parties. It's worth noting that over the past 5 years, Meta has collected more than $4 billion in political contribution advertising alone.
