A newly revealed patent application titled "Tracking calorie expenditure with a camera" is based at its core on how much effort the user puts into the exercise. The idea is that iPhone gets "face tracking data"to help determine steps, speed, and stride length. Together with motion sensors, it could determine the slope of the surface you're running on, andonec calculate the caloric expenditure model.
