Research agency Statista has published an interesting graph that shows the distribution of forces in the field of operating systems from 2009 to the present. From the first look at the graph, it is clear that Windows is gradually losing its users at the expense of macOS, which, on the other hand, just as quickly as Windows it loses, so it grows.
While in 2009, 95% of all operating systems in personal computers were represented in the world Windows and Mac OS X at the time only had 3,68% of the market, with Linux accounting for the rest. However, at the end of 2023, i.e. in December, it was completely different and while Windows had only 69% of users, macOS had 21% of users. In January it can be seen that the scissors between Windows and macOS opened a little more than in December last year, but the chart shows a number of these monthly fluctuations.

Interest Windows However, it is not only falling because of macOS, but for example Linux today has 3,77%, which is more than what this graph of Mac OS X started with in 2009. The rest belongs to various alternative systems, led by Chrome OS. According to experts, the problem is not only that the competition is attracting more and more users and is getting better, but also that it is Windows annoy users with constant changes that basically from Windows XP does not suit some users and, on the contrary, forces them to leave. For example, the removal of the Start menu, which Microsoft replaced by the Cortana assistant.
Another mistake was when Microsoft redesigned the interface after the arrival of the iPad Windows so that it can be used on touch screens. Which would certainly be nice if they also launched a tablet on the market on which this interface could be used and this tablet would be a success. That's all nesthello and Windows so after a few years they returned to the older version of the design.
If it continues like this, then within 10 years the number of computers could basically equalize with Windows and macOS. In addition, it is necessary to realize that for Apple is macOS something that it offers for free as part of its product and it is a minor part of the whole business for it, while for Microsoft je Windows along with Office and Xbox is absolutely essential for the entire company.
... interesting numbers, yes, but I would like to take issue with two statements in the article:
– “removing the Start menu” – this nesthello and Windows they still have the Start menu
- the fact that MacOS is "free" is odd - you simply cannot buy a Mac computer without MacOS (the price of MacOS is already included in the price of the computer) = you can buy a number of PCs either directly with pre-installed Windows (then the OS is included in the price of the computer, just like with MacOS) or you buy a computer without an OS and install the OS you want = freedom of choice.
An undeniable advantage Windows is that you install them "basically on the calculator", i.e. HW variaThe availability of computers with Win gives users much more freedom. Also the price of the computers on which you install Windows and they run very well is significantly lower than MacOS computers.
Another indisputable advantage Windows je variaSW bility, simply "everything is there" on Win, MacOS often lacks a "reasonable alternative". Of course, there is no need to talk about games at all.
The bottom line is that both systems have something to offer, and it's good that they exist. Is "the wok" still "a little" more universal.
By the way, Microsoft of course computers and tablets with Windows produces and they are great devices, completely comparable to Macbooky or iPads, they just "have it harder" because computers with Windows is a "bunch" and for significantly less money and tablets with Android you s Windows understands very well, so for most users there is simply no need to invest in more expensive devices.
Only the macOS is debugged on the HW. And here you know what to expect from such HW.
Although Widle can be installed even in the most affordable store, and then people are surprised that now and then something falls, every now and then something doesn't work, and now and then they have to wait for something.
With Widlema it's like with Droid: HW variaAlthough the bility is considered a plus, it is actually a minus. Therefore, if you want it to work as well as MacOS, iOS, so you still have to buy more expensive HW to make it worth something. And let's face it, sometimes even more expensive.
We're not rich enough to buy cheap things.
... the woks haven't been falling for a long, long time :-) But feel free to think what you want about it. Scalability and upgradeability of computers with Windows is the right way.
And with the detuning of the system to the given HW, it is a very weak argument, which is not even true.
And with that price and "cheap things", let everyone buy what they want, let them spend for what they want, but it will not bring them any special advantage.
I too thought something similar for a long time. But then I tried. The conclusion is that I don't need freedom. I need a lightning-quick computer that can be relied on.
Windows 11 has a 4GB RAM requirement. I have 8GB and with the browser I'm at 6-7GB. Unfortunately, Win 11 does not run on calculations.
It's even about walking away from Windows dedicated in the magazine Chip in an article Microsofte, what's happening? Users are slowly leaving Windows - something is wrong. I'll try to put a link here https://www.chip.cz/microsofte-co-se-deje-uzivatele-pomalu-odchazeji-od-windows-neco-je-spatne
I will add to the article and in connection with the referenced one that it Microsoftit supports not only MacOS, but also Linux distributions, Chrome OS. Another thing is that many users only need a smartphone or tablet, meaning that several of them are moving away from the computer.
