It probably doesn't need to be emphasized that iPhones today can handle a huge number of functions. However, in the flood of applications offered, it is often App Store It's easy to forget that many handy tools for simplifying work and saving time are already part of it. The Dictaphone application from the company is just such an example. Apple.
It can be used to record conversations, meetings and lectures, or a great idea that strikes you while parking your car or walking your dog. The indisputable advantage of this handy software is its availability on iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and computers Apple, while the recording is not limited in any way (it depends only on the internal memory capacity of your device), so there is nothing to prevent you from recording the entire presentation of the teacher or another speaker. Today we will try to cover the basics, but also penetrate a little deeper into Dictaphone on the iPhone and thus offer an expansion of the potential of using voice notes in practice.
How to start and when to buy audio the record may come in handy
There are a number of reasons and situations where voice recording can be useful. Maybe your boss likes to "get things done on the fly," or while he's moving between the meeting room and the office.ancor on the way to lunch – if you are not very good at shorthand, but at the same time do not want to inadvertently miss any of his suggestions and requests, then an audio recording is a great solution. The same applies to a work meeting over dinner with colleagues, when you are working on a new project or otherwise fine-tuning the details and want to keep track of the ideas of all participants. No less useful is audio A note, as a quick way to jot down a brilliant business idea, a birthday present or a trip to please your significant other, for example, while on your way to work.
At the same time, using the Dictaphone application on the iPhone is incredibly easy. (Just remember, in case you want to record with the participation of other people, to ask if they agree to it first). How to do it?
- Open the Voice Recorder app.
- Here, just tap the red button and you're already recording.
- Alternatively, you can contact Siri with the request: "Siri, begin and Voice Memo Recording. "
Pause recording
There are cases where simply pausing the recording seems more convenient than stopping and starting a new recording. For example, during an important lunch with colleagues, information about what coffee someone ordered is not something that will help you when you are going through reminders about the inclusion of new products in the sale or something similar, as well as a longer interruption of the interview when your counterpart needs to handle a call or to devote a moment to someone else, they do not help much later processing. The procedure is as follows:
- While recording, tap the running recording field below the screen or swipe up to expand the view to full screen.
- Tap the pause symbol to temporarily stop the recording.
- You connect again with the "Continue" button.
Stop recording
It might seem like a trivial matter, but if you forget to actually stop the process after finishing a conversation or taking a note, you'll end up with a really long recording that will take up unnecessary space on your storage. So this step is good to keep in mind.
- In normal view, press the red square at the bottom of the interface.
- In full-screen layout, tap the pause button, then select "Done."
Deleting a record
Not every action or event is worth saving. If you decide that you no longer need a particular recording, it can be easily deleted as follows:
- Find the voice memo you want to delete in the list.
- Clicking on it will bring up editing options.
- Use the trash icon to delete the record.
In this way, you will get rid of unnecessary files, save device data space and at the same time help clarity.
Restore a recently deleted recording
If you (accidentally) delete the wrong file, there's no need to panic. Just as you can recover deleted photos, the same procedure can be applied to recover recently deleted recordings. And how to do that?
- Go to the main screen of the application. (If you are in "All Records" use the left arrow at the top of the interface)
- Select "Recently Deleted" here.
- In the drop-down list, click on the file you want to restore.
- Select "Restore" to put the recording back among the other desired recordings.
- If you want to recover multiple deleted voice memos, use the "Edit" option in the upper right corner. You can then make a selection by ticking it, or you can use the "Restore all" button at the bottom left.
It's worth mentioning that by default you only have 30 days to restore deleted files, but this can be changed in "Settings", under "Dictaphone" and further via "Remove deleted" with a choice of: Immediately, After a day, After 7 days , After 30 days or Never. As for saving, it happens automatically, so you don't have to worry about it, and files will be available to you at any time in "All records".
Renaming a recording
In order to maintain the clarity of individual records, it is advisable to ideally give each of your files a new name, according to which it will be easy to find it in the future. Here's how to do it:
- Select a recording.
- Once expanded, click on the title. (New record 1…)
- Rename as you see fit.
After that, there is no need to confirm anything, you will find it in the list under the new designation. (If you want to do some more right away, just press "Enter" to hide the keyboard.)
Saving a recording to a folder on iCloudu
Although the Voice Recorder automatically saves the recording locally, you may also want to save it to iCloudu so that you can access it from any device in the folder you selected. The following steps will ensure that the voice memo is found in the selected location andCloudu.
- Look for the circle with three dots next to the name and tap it.
- In the drop-down list, work your way down to "Save to files".
- Select the folder you want to add the entry to.
- If you want to create a new one, again use the icon with three dots in the upper right corner and choose "New folder".
Organizing recordings within the application in folders
Sometimes it can be useful to help organize your recordings by organizing them into folders, especially if you use the Voice Recorder application often and on different occasions. If you choose to go this route, your home screen will grow with the folders you create – such as Job Interviews, Quick Ideas, Inspiration, and more. This can be done as follows:
- To create a new folder, click on its icon with a plus sign in the lower right corner of the home screen.
- Do the naming.
- Confirm by selecting "Save".
- Then select the record you want to move.
- Again, use the wheel with three dots (to the right of the recording name).
- In the list below, just select "Move to folder" and click on the one in which the recording should be included.
Shortening or deleting part of the recording
There are many reasons why you might want to cut out parts of a recording. It can be a situation where you repeatedly cross your mind or the recording is difficult to understand due to various noises around you or simply you evaluate a certain part as unimportant. For these purposes, the application is equipped with "Truncate" and "Delete" functions. Follow these steps to make adjustments:
- In the list, tap the voice memo you want to trim.
- Through the button with three dots to the right of the name, enter the menu where you choose "Edit recording".
- Select the crop tool in the upper right corner of the file.
- Drag the yellow crop handles at the bottom of the interface to mark the part you intend to keep, with the areas you want to crop highlighted in white.
- For control, it is good to have a selection, or at least its beginning, andonec use the play button to listen.
- Click "Trim" to crop everything except the yellow highlighted part.
- After that, all that remains is to save the changes at the top right and confirm them with "Done".
You can also remove a certain part of the recording by selecting the section and clicking the "Delete" button. Depending on your choice, you can either mark in yellow what you want to delete oronechat or vice versa remove.
Replacing parts of a recording
If you messed up or needed to clear your throat in the middle of an important voice memo, don't worry. Something can be done with that too. Replacing a part you don't like is not difficult.
- Just select the recording to be repaired.
- Reach for the three dots symbol again.
- Here, choose "Edit Recording".
- Move your finger through the visual display of the record until you reach the incriminating part.
- Click on the red "Replace" button to start overwriting, during which the run of the changed section will be highlighted in red.
- Use Pause to finish.
- Listen to the recording. If you are satisfied, save the changes via Done.
You can do this procedure in any number of places to ensure complete satisfaction with the final condition.
Speed up or slow down the recording
If you don't like the pace of the speaker's speech, whether it's too fast or seems too slow, know that the speed can be easily adjusted. It is enough to:
- Tap the audio file you want to speed up or slow down.
- Then use the icon with three lines and circles (mixer) on the left.
- In the display menu, move the slider to the left towards the turtle symbol to slow down the recording, and to achieve the opposite effect, drag the slider to the right towards the hare icon.
- Use the cross in the upper right corner of the field to close the view.
- Press the play button on the recording to try the new speed.
- If you don't like the sound at the speed shift, go back to the "Playback Speed" function and make another adjustment, or use "Restore" to return to the original setting.
- Use the cross again to exit.
You don't have to worry too much about distortion. Speeding up definitely won't make your voice sound like some cartoon characters, as the pitch of the voice doesn't change, but if you move the slider all the way to maxAt low values, especially when slowing down, you may encounter a somewhat artificial sound. In any case, this function can be very useful under certain conditions.
Automatic skipping of silence in the recording
Unlike in real life, it's very easy to remove annoying silent spots in the Voice Recorder app. If you intend to use this handy feature, proceed as follows:
- Click on the audio file you want to edit.
- Go to the editing options via the mixer icon on the left.
- Toggle the "Skip Silence" button to on.
- Close the display with the cross.
- Play a part of the recording to see if the current state is better and you like the way it sounds.
In this way, quite considerable time savings can be achieved, especially when listening to longer recordings containing sections when no one is speaking.
Recording improvements
There are not always ideal conditions for recording. Sometimes it's the sound of passing cars, other times it's the TV playing in the next room, or maybe the sound of keyboards clicking while simultaneously typing the most important points of a message. If you want to try to eliminate these unwanted effects or just achieve a more professional-looking result, you can try the following:
- Select the audio file you want to edit
- Again, use the mixer icon to expand the edits
- Turn on "Enhance recording".
- Exit the settings with the cross.
- Listen to the result.
The enhancement function does not solve everything, but it can often bring at least partial changes that contribute to the clarity of the message.
Duplicating a recording
Before editing some records, it is a good idea tooneIf you don't like the changes you've made or something goes wrong, first create a backup, so you'll always have a fresh copy of the original on hand. You'll also appreciate this for any possible comparisons before and after the changes.
- Tap the recording you want to duplicate.
- Use the three-dot symbol
- Select "Duplicate" from the drop-down list.
- Then look for the copy of the file directly below the original, with the word "copy" appended to the file name. Change its name if you want.
Copying a recording
For the purposes of pasting in emails, presentations and the like, the copying option is great. Here's how to copy a recording on your iPhone.
- Navigate to the file you want to copy.
- Tap the three-dot button again.
- Choose "Copy" from the list of actions.
No matter where you put the audio recording, this procedure can work well as a form of backup just in case.
Sharing a recording
There are a number of reasons why you might want to share your recording. Maybe your colleagues want a copy of an important meeting you recorded, or you're sending your audio notes to someone to transcribe. The Dictaphone application provides file sharing options very easily.
- Enter the "All recordings" list (or the selected folder).
- Tap the file you want to share.
- Open the menu by clicking on the symbol with three dots, which has been mentioned many times.
- Select "Share" from the options below.
- Choose a sharing method, such as via email, text message, or AirDrop.
Such are the capabilities and possibilities of using the Dictaphone (not only) in your iPhone, which can easily be your quick and effective helper in various situations where it can save you time and effort.
