Today we celebrate the national holiday Day of the Struggle for Freedom and Democracy and International Student Day - November 17. Two major events in our history of the 20th century are connected to this date. November 17, 1939, when the Nazis closed Czech universities. This happened immediately after the funeral of Jan Opletal, which was actually an act against the German occupation. The second event happened in 1989 and is connected to student protests on Národní trída, which were violently suppressed by Public Security. The unrest then escalated into the Velvet Revolution. The events contributed to the downfall of the vile communist regime and the relegation of communist swine to the sidelines. Since 1989 completely changed our country, there are also several documentaries about it, free on YouTube.
