Samsung Electronics, the world leader in advanced semiconductor technology, today introduced the T5 EVO, a small and lightweight solid state drive with a capacity of up to 8 terabytes (TB). No portable SSD on the market today offers more storage space. In addition to capacity, the main advantages of the T5 EVO include lightning-fast data transfer and a compact, durable design.
“The new T5 EVO is ideal for customers looking to replace traditional external hard drives. It offers the largest capacity on the market, fast data transfer speeds and a durable design, all in a compact design that fits in the palm of your hand,” said Hangu Sohn, Vice President of Storage Media Business at Samsung Electronics. “The T5 EVO will appeal to a wide range of lifestyles. With up to 8TB of capacity, fast data transfer speeds and shock resistance, it’s the perfect choice for anyone who needs to store data even in the most demanding environments.” The SSD with USB 3.2 Gen 1 transfers data up to 3,8x faster than standard external hard drives, maxThe maximum sequential read and write speed reaches up to 460 MB/s. It is therefore particularly suitable for transferring large files.
Light ergonomic design
The design concept of the T5 EVO honors the slogan "compact, light, ergonomic". The external SSD drive is characterized by an ergonomic design - unlike previous versions, it is not the size of a business card, but it is still compact and does not weigh much. It measures 95 mm in width, 40 in length and 17 mm in thickness, which means that the disc fits comfortably in the palm of your hand. The combination of small dimensions and large memory means fast data transfers in a smaller and lighter body compared to a traditional external hard disk drive (HDD). The weight of 102 grams means that the disc will definitely not weigh down any bag, but it is pleasantly robust at the same time.
In addition, the T5 EVO in black with a titanium gray ring looks really elegant and goes well visually with other silver or gray devices. Thanks to the practical ring, it can be easily attached to any bag or other luggage. In addition, the metal rubberized construction protects the disc from external influences, including falling from up to two meters.
Easily and quickly store millions of photos or songs
A small and light design is not excluded in the T5 EVO with a large capacity. The drive can hold up to 8 TB of data – large files, high definition videos, photos, games and other content for work and play. The T5 EVO with 8TB can hold more than 2 million common photos with an average size of 3,5MB, 1,8 million songs with 4MB or 3500 videos with a size of 2GB.
Safety above all, or protection against extreme temperatures and data encryption
Security is a top priority for SSD manufacturers, who must protect their products from extreme temperatures and data tampering. The T5 EVO handles temperature extremes with Samsung's Dynamic Thermal Guard technology, which maintains operating temperatures at optimal levels in accordance with the international safety standard IEC 62368-1. Data protection is further enhanced by the Adv encryption system.anced Encryption Standard (AES) in 256-bit standard.
Compatibility with a wide range of devices
The T5 EVO is compatible with many operating systems and devices – including macOS computers® i Windows®, with smartphones, tablets and game consoles. There is also a Samsung software suite Magician with various disk management tools. These include real-time disk status monitoring, authentication, performance evaluation, firmware updates, etc.
The T5 EVO drive is available in 2 TB, 4 TB and 8 TB versions. The basic package includes a USB Type-C-to-C cable, the manufacturer provides a three-year limited warranty. Recommended retail sales prices: CZK 3 for the 999 TB version, CZK 2 for the 7 TB version and CZK 999 for the 4 TB version. As of today, the T14 EVO is starting to be sold worldwide. On the one hand, it's technically admirable, this much data on such a small, portable device.
On the other hand, it's practically awfully risky, that much data on such a small, portable device.
It's risky for toucans who don't back up their data regularly...
It's not just about losing the data, it's also about someone finding the data.
Sure, your answer will be that it's only risky for toucans who don't encrypt their data... well, but we don't live in an ideal world and let's face it, we're all a little toucans sometimes.
In short, don't carry sensitive data on a medium that I can easily lose.
