MacBookIn my opinion, the Pros have come a long way in the last few years than their less powerful siblings. MacBooků AirNot that they were outright bad a few years ago, but the transition from Intel to Apple Silicon in combination with a number of other interesting upgrades revealed their full potential. True, their price is not low, and after the recent introduction of M3 chips, not even for the basic version, but according to the reactions of their owners, they can do almost miracles. As a long-time user, I am all the more curious MacBooků Air, whose last experience was with a 16" Intel MacBookem Pro with Touch Bar, on the next generation MacBookIt was released just a few days ago. And since I've been playing with it for a while now, before publishing the review, it's fitting to share my first impressions of this machine.

As I already wrote in unboxing, for testing I got my hands on a performance-wise "nonsensical" configuration - specifically a 14" MacBook Pro with the M3 chip Max with 16 CPU cores and 40 GPU cores, 128GB of RAM and 8TB of SSD storage, which is the most you can put into MacBooku Pro currently. Talking about performance here probably doesn't make much sense, since that's the most you can get in a laptop from Applu get. But more about that in the review itself sometime next time. For now, I will focus more on what you will actually perceive right after unpacking, which is undoubtedly the color, image and speakers. All of these aspects are really interesting about this machine.
If I start with the color, I already wrote in the unboxing that it seems to me to some extent the most special that I have seen in recent years Apple used. But not because she was ugly, because the heart of every fan of dark MacBookOn the contrary, it will cheer you up, but because in the light it changes its shade almost unbelievably from light gray to merciless black. I don't know what shades of black are exactly visible in space, but under the term "space black" I am willing to imagine this color dispersion. However, don't count on it being MacBook 100% black, as was the case with the antennas of the iPhone 5 or the Jet Black of the iPhone 7, because in 99% of cases it is "just" dark gray, although more so than in the Space Gray era. You can also see this in the gallery below, where I have placed, among other things, a photo of the Space Gray iPad (2018), Space Gray MacBooku Air M1 and Space Black MacBookFor M3 Max.
But what about Space Black? variaWhat interests everyone much more than whether it is more or less black or gray is how fingerprints and other dirt stick to it. The chassis of the machine is of course again made of aluminum and, taking into account the experience from last year's releases, MacBooků Air in midnight blue, many feared that, just like dark Airy will be dark too MacBooky For a smudge catcher. Fortunately, that's not the case, or almost. Sure, some fingerprints will be caught on the body, but it's by no means as extreme as the blue on Airech. New technology for surface machining and treatment, which Apple already boasted in press releases, so it obviously took off. You will have to polish it from time to time, but you can't avoid it even with space gray, silver or gold colors. varianty, so there's really nothing to complain about here.
The machine's display has also been upgraded, offering 20% more brightness in standard mode. Although it's "only" an extra 100 nits, I have to admit that compared to any other MacBookwith maxWith 500 nits in SDR, this jump is really significant and once you see it, you start to think that 500 nits is actually quite a bit. In this drizzly weather, you probably won't fully appreciate it, but I believe that the readability of the display in bright sunlight will be much better thanks to the higher brightness. It wasn't bad at 500 nits already, but a small "boost" here was definitely in place and will improve the workflow. If I were to evaluate the display as a whole and forget that the only screen upgrade between the M2 and M3 versions of this machine is the 20% extra brightness, I would have no other words for it than "exceptional", "phenomenal", "amazing" or "unrivaled". Liquid Retina XDR, how Apple its mini The LED display is called that, because it is simply breathtaking and a joy to look at.
Whether we're talking about color vibrancy, contrast, of course resolution, finesse, ProMotion allowing to display the image in up to 120Hz or perhaps "just" narrow frames around the display, there is really nothing to criticize here. Some people complain about the cutout, but for me personally it is a nice display highlight and at the same time a good compromise between the need to install a solid webcam and maintain narrow frames on most displays. And honestly, I think the cutout suits me better than Dynamic Island, which I personally perceive as an interactive element that would not make as much sense in combination with the mouse cursor as it does in combination with the touch control on the iPhone display. But who knows, maybe this solution Apple in a few years he will use it and prove to us that it is actually great even with the cursor.
He deserves praise Apple also for the sound system of this machine. Although in the technical specifications you will find the same text as for the previous or one year older generation, the past has shown that Apple He works on audio all the time and even though he doesn't talk about it, he's not afraid to upgrade it. And here I dare say that this is exactly the case. The speakers of the new MacBookThe Pro sounds truly sensational and almost makes you wonder if the era of additional speakers in lower price ranges is slowly coming to an end. Because I don't believe that anything under 10 thousand crowns connected to this MacBooku will play better than himself.
The sound is dense, but at the same time very clean, natural and pleasant. The bass component is also at a great level and the same can be said about the presentation of highs, mids and lows. In short, an incredibly complex matter for a laptop. I honestly found myself several times listening to the sound played from MacBookI mistook it for reality and had to go and see for myself whether the thing actually happened somewhere around me or whether it was really just a "product" of the speaker. MacBooku. Some will probably object now that what else would I expect from a device for 207 thousand crowns, since the configuration I tested costs that much. But be careful. You can get these speakers even in the basic version. MacBookFor the M3 for 50 CZK, they are actually a bigger bargain. Apple holt once again showed that he is a master of his craft.
How then MacBook Pro How to evaluate the M3 after a few hours? My first impressions were truly impressive, regardless of its performance, which I am slowly unable to understand, let alone use. However, steps forward have been made on other fronts as well, making this machine a step further than its spring version. And I am starting to wonder whether it would make me happier, even in the basic version, than my Air. Because I simply can't imagine a more versatile work partner for both home and travel. However, I need a few more days to fully test it, so stay tuned for the review!
I have an order :-) But I took "only 4TB", I use about 1,5TB for work.
I used to have this habit too, "I'd rather get more, it might come in handy", then it was a 4TB SSD that was never even half full, etc., today I'm fine with 1TB Macbookon both Pro and Mac StudioI don't have more than 1TB of actively used data on the disk anyway, and for the rest a fast external 8TB SSD for the price of "app"hunting surcharge" from 256GB to 512GB ;)
When I marry iPhone, so I had 256GB and it was always enough for me to work… But… Now with the 15 Pro I have 256 taken up in a moment. But I solved it with an external SSD (that's the advantage that it works here). After the new year with a new project I will need more space. So I think I will use the 4TB
I don't want to deal with anything external with the iPhone, so 1TB is a bit much, but I understand your need ;) But it breaks my heart to pay for it AppI'm spending this unchristian money when I buy an 8TB SSD for work for about 7000 CZK.
Hello, Mr. Filip, you write that you also have experience with Intel. Macbookem Pro from 2019. I currently have that too. So I would like to ask, if you were to directly compare these two machines, do you think there is any audible shift in the area of internal speakers, or is it comparable? I am planning to upgrade to Macbook pro with M3 max, so I'm curious what the main differences will be that you'll notice during normal work, whether I'll really notice any fundamental improvements in terms of battery, display, speakers, speed during normal work, etc. I'm probably most impressed by the Intel macbookI'm annoyed by the frequent fan turning on at high speeds, lower battery life, heating, occasional CPU overload by one process, the absence of a card reader, a lousy Facetime camera, and I also find the sharp edges annoying when typing, but that will probably be the same now.
Good afternoon. For me personally, the shift in speakers is really huge, and I say that as someone who was completely blown away by the speakers of the Intel "sixteen". But compared to it, there are new MacBooky is actually audibly a bit further away, although it's hard to believe and I probably wouldn't believe it either if I hadn't listened to it with my own ears. The display is a bit further away because of ProMotion, which ensures perfect fluidity of displayed moving content. Battery life depends a lot on what you do on your Mac, so I would rather not get into an assessment here, although the M3 should of course be significantly better than Intel. And as for the frequent switching on of the fan, I was extremely annoyed by that on Intel too, but nothing like that happens here. Even during more demanding tasks, I have not yet spun the fans, while with Intel they spun atancelectrical work routinely.
