Apple is known, among other things, for trying to protect the privacy and security of its customers. He is practically constantly working on various new functions and gadgets to take security to the next level. The absolute basis for protecting user data is end-to-end encryption, which Apple uses in several of its applications and services. Not long ago then Apple introduced extended data protection on iCloudwhich extends end-to-end encryption within the Apple ecosystem even further. Let's explore advanced data protection on i together in this articleCloudLook at the tooth.

End encryption
Even before we dive into the novelty itself, it is necessary to focus on end encryption - some of you may not even know what it actually is and how it works. End-to-end encryption is not called that for nothing. For example, if you have a message that is end-to-end encrypted, it is first encrypted when sent using a key that is stored on the sender's device. It then travels encrypted through the entire Internet and is decrypted by the recipient, i.e. at the end, via the decryption key stored in the recipient's device. This is how all messages that use end-to-end encryption are encrypted, including those that have already been sent. In practice, this means that messages with end-to-end encryption can only be read by the sender and receiver on their devices, thanks to the keys.
Enhanced data protection on iCloudu
It already currently protectsCloud end-to-end encryption of some data. Specifically, there are a total of 14 categories, including messages (when backup is turned off), Keychain passwords, health data, Maps history, and many others. Advanced data protection on iCloudu increases the number of categories protected by end-to-end encryption to 23. The added categories include device and message backups, iCloud Drive, notes, photos, reminders, audio recordings, bookmarks in Safari, shortcuts and tickets in Wallet. End-to-end encryption thus covers most of the data and there are practically only three categories left that are not protected by end-to-end encryption, namely emails, contacts and calendars, due to the necessary interoperability with other applications and systems.
When will we wait?
It is important to mention that extended data protection on iCloudhas already been launched, but for now only in the United States of America. According to the words AppThe rest of the world should see this feature sometime in early 2023, but the exact date is unknown. It is expected that we should see it either with the arrival of iOS 16.3, or only with the arrival iOS 16.4. If he wants Apple to fulfill its promise, later it would extend data protection to iCloudIt shouldn't have been launched for the rest of the world. Anyway, we know how the Californian giant has been doing with its promises lately, so let's hope it keeps this one.
