When a new version of macOS is released, you can simply download and install it by going to System Preferences and clicking on Software Update. However, sometimes you may find yourself in a situation where you need to download an older version of the macOS installer as well. This option is most often used by various adminidevelopers and testers – for example, if something doesn't work as it should on specific devices after an update. So if you want to find out where you can download the installer for any version of macOS, read this article to the end.

How to download any version of macOS on Mac

There are several ways to download any version of macOS. The easiest option is to download the installer itself directly from App Store, or for older versions of macOS directly from the website Applu, which are intended for developers. Below you will find a list of easy ways to download operating systems for Apple computers, from OS X Yosemite 10.10 to macOS 11 Big Sur.

As I mentioned above, there are several ways to download older versions of macOS. You can also use the Terminal for this, among other things. You can launch it from the Utilities folder located in Applications, or you can find it using Spotlight. To download it, just use the command I am attaching below. You just need to copy and paste the command into the Terminal window, instead of asterisks, directly type in the version of macOS you want to download, for example 10.15.4, etc. If you would like to know the exact procedure, just click here.
