Most of us have our own equipment that we work on every day and that we don't like to borrow. However, it is not possible in all cases for each individual in a family to have their own device, for example. The good news is that this is not an issue within macOS. This is because you can create several accounts with the fact that users cannot access each other's data, which is the most important thing for many of us. One computer can work for the whole household without any problems, including maintaining privacy.

How to Enable Quick User Switching on Mac

If one device is used by several users, it is important that there is an option for their quick switching. Of course you can log out and then log back in under a different account, however there is a great option to switch to another account in a few clicks. This option hides in the top bar and is called quick user switching. You can activate this option as follows:

  • First, you need to tap on in the upper left corner icon .
  • Once you do so, select an option from the menu that appears System Preferences…
  • Then a new window will appear where you can find all the sections for managing system preferences.
  • Within this window, find and click on the section named Users and groups.
  • Now at the bottom left tap on the option Login options.
  • Once you've done that, now tap on in the bottom left corner lockauthorize yourself.
  • After authorization, it's enough tick possibility Quick user switching.
  • V menu next to it this option you can also choose how fast user switching will look like in the top bar.

Now, whenever you need to switch to a different account, you don't have to log out. Just click on the quick user switching option in the top bar and choose the user you want to log in with. Finally, I would like to mention a small interesting fact related to the above function. UntiloneIn the past, users of new Macs with M1 chips had problems with fast user switching - if someone tried to switch, it automatically started the screensaver. However, this feature should now be fixed, and if you are still experiencing it, update your macOS.
