T-Mobile is modernizing its mobile network and will therefore switch off the 3G network at the end of November this year. Freeing up the 2100 MHz frequency used by the current 3G network will allow the operator to boost newer LTE and 5G technologies. The change will improve the use of the radio spectrum and significantly increase the available speeds for mobile data. The vast majority of customers will not notice the change, because they already use SIM cards and communication devices that support modern LTE or 5G technologies.

"We want to connect our country with the most advanced network, and turning off 3G will allow us to further improve it. The spectrum originally used for 3G will become available for the latest LTE and 5G technologies" says Zdeněk Bumbálek, access network strategy manager at T-Mobile Czech Republic, adding: "This will make high-speed Internet and other mobile services of the highest quality even more accessible and bring us one step closer to a truly gigabit society".

There is no cause for concern

The change itself will actually only affect miniof customers who will use the 3G network for mobile data transmission even when it is switched off. There are already less than one percent of them. The vast majority of T-Mobile customers already have top-notch mobile services available today because they use devices and SIM cards with LTE support. The switch-off of the 3G mobile network will therefore not affect them at all. Customers whose older device only supports 3G and who only use call and SMS services also do not have to change anything if they do not want to. They will continue to be able to make calls and send messages with their existing phones.onem on the 2G network, which is available everywhere where 3G is now available. However, when these users exchange their old phone for a smartphoneone and will use a SIM card with LTE support, will significantly improve. T-Mobile customers with a newer type of device supporting LTE, VoLTE (Voice over LTE) or 5G will be able to make calls and data on the most modern network.

T-Mobile has been investing in the most modern technologies in the Czech Republic for more than twenty years and maintains the standard of its mobile network at a top level. In 2009, the operator launched a 3rd generation network using the UMTS technology standard and thus started a real boom in the mobile Internet. The data transfer speed then reached 14,4 Mbit/s for downloading and 5,7 Mbit/s for uploading"People these days expect speeds and capacity that 3G networks already provide." nest"Technology change is therefore necessary and cannot be postponed any longer." concludes Zdeněk Bumbálek. The trend of replacing outdated 3G technologies with new ones is evident across Europe. 3G networks are already being switched off within the Deutsche Telekom group. For example, 3G in its network will be discontinued in Germany at the end of June this year.
