How to iPhone connect to home server
If you would like to connect to a home server on your iPhone or iPad, you must have the operating system installed. iOS 13 or iPadOS 13 and later. If you meet this condition, proceed as follows:
- First, you need to switch to the native application on your iPhone or iPad Files.
- Once you've done that, tap on the option in the menu at the bottom Browsing.
- On the next screen, tap on in the upper right corner three dots icon.
- A small drop-down menu will appear, press an option Connect to the server.
- Immediately after that, a text box will appear for you to enter The IP address of your home server. It is not necessary to enter the port.

But I also use it and it works well, even for backing up photos, documents and everything else.
I tried it when it first came out, but it was horribly slow and didn't work very well. I stayed with the synology app and it works as I need it to. I'm not interested in the external connection at all and I don't have it active. Rather, the app has functions that iOS natively it doesn't.
