While just a few hours ago, the world was convinced that the new generation of TV boxing Apple TV will bring almost nothing interesting, a recent discovery in the tvOS 14.5 beta has shaken things up quite a bit in this regard. The developers managed to find references to support for a 120Hz refresh rate, which should enable it to display smoother images on compatible TVs - that is, of course, if the image is adapted to 120Hz.
Current Apple TV use HDMI 2.0, which offers max4K at 60Hz. New Apple TV However, according to the tvOS 14.5 beta code, it should get HDMI 2.1, which will enable 4K at 120Hz and therefore a smoother image for customized content. In this respect, the new TV box is on par with, for example, the Xbox Series X or Playstation 5, which offer the same. However, it is quite interesting that while a higher refresh rate makes sense for game consoles, in the case of Apple TV It may not seem like it at first glance. The game library on it is significantly weaker compared to classic consoles and movies cannot benefit much from the higher refresh rate, unless they are adapted to it. It will therefore be very interesting to see in which direction theonec Apple he directs his TV to make all the improvements on it make the most sense. However, when we will learn about his plans is still in the stars at the moment - it could happen in the horizon of days or weeks, or even in the fall.
But your TV only reaches 50Hz
The cheaper panels do, but they are 100-120Hz and in some cases even 200Hz (natively).
Maybe 120hz will be useful for mirroring the iPad and other Macs on the TV.
I doubt it
That's too much data flow and the response would have to be really low
Futility
Why is it pointless? I have a TV with a 120 Hz panel and I don't think it's unnecessary.
Hello, it is necessary to take into account what kind of TV people usually have at home. 50Hz predominates. So, from the point of view of the majority, it really is useless. Personally, I see it as a certain advantage, but the question remains how many people will actually use it.
I also have a 120 Hz OLED panel in a 3-year-old TV... but I don't have HDMI 2.1, which doesn't even bother me - I really don't need 23.976 Hz at the input for 24/120p movies (or image processing makes the TV better than the comrades in Cupertino).
And while we're at it, let the comrades in Cupertina make native 24p support - presumably it will be in tvOS 14.5, since some (especially francUzske) movies are in 24p (not 23.976p) and Apple TV the pixel then tears the image.. when we consider how long it took them to implement the previous framerate, for free, it's not emojiiii!
120 Hz is good for football and professional shooters. There is no benefit to watching movies and streaming services, for which the ATV is primarily intended
Many people will say that it is pointless .. but I understand that it is not -> for the sustainability of HW for a longer period of time. Most PS5 games won't be capable of 120hz either, but they support it :) Especially when it's in the 2.1 HDMI standard and a lot of TVs/monitors support it.. I don't have a single device that can do it and I don't see it as pointless. The same people were dreaming about 4K and now almost everyone has it... soon it will also be in every home.
that's really such obscenities. 100hz, 120hz, you can't tell with your eyes, they know when I recognize 30hz. it's just marketing and a useless reason to take money out of your pocket. not even a dog after 3 years of release nesthe says. even now apple tv it is not very usable in our regions. and that's me applist and I know English very well.
Adkoo, well, on the one hand, 120 and 100 Hz are the same, only in the USA it is 120 hz and here it is 100 hz, and you will definitely know the difference compared to 30 Hz....
So I'm probably defective in that case... I bought a new 144Hz monitor instead of 270Hz and the difference is striking for me. I always thought 60Hz was enough, but now 60Hz is giving me a headache (no joke) and my eyes because everything suddenly seems choppy. You get used to it quickly. Every person perceives it differently, I don't take it from anyone, but to claim (and still stand by it) that you can't see the difference between 30Hz and 100/120Hz is a lie.
So a person always has to justify why they don't buy something that is more expensive than what they have at home
