Apple has previously filed a patent application for a MagSafe cover that can charge both the iPhone and compatible Apple wireless headphones. According to the drawing in the patent application, it is a cover of the type Folio with an integrated battery. The application in question dates back to August of last year, but it only became public at the end of last week. The description of the patent itself is written in a relatively vague style, but that does not detract from its interestingness. The described device is intended not only to protect the device in question, but also to charge the battery of another product. The packaging is supposed to include an integrated induction coil. One of the illustrations shows a cover, part of which resembles the Smart charging case Battery Case with Lightning port, the next picture clearly shows the method of wireless charging via MagSafe. In both illustrations we can also see the brackets used to connect AirPods – in one case the mentioned holder is located on the side of the cover, in the other on its front.
About the possibility of charging smaller electronics, such as headphones AirPods, using the iPhone has been speculated before. Samsung offers this option on some of its smartphones via the PowerShare feature, Apple but it never introduced charging directly via the iPhone - so the aforementioned cover could be an alternative solution. Of course, the patent application itself does not guarantee that the described device will be realized at all, but it is not excluded that it would Apple could use similar technology in the future.
