US imposes sanctions on chipmaker SMIC

The United States has taken action against the largest chip manufacturer, SMIC (Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation). The sanctions were imposed due to concerns that the company is linked to the Chinese military and that its products could be used for military purposes. SMIC denies any allegations. Although sanctions have been imposed, the company is not yet on the blacklist like Huawei, for example.
