Glass has become an integral part of many smartphones in recent years. In addition to covering the display, more and more manufacturers are also using them as material for the back, thanks to which the phones are capable of wireless charging. However, the use of glass brings with it, in addition to the advantages, also pitfalls in the form of the risk of breakage during falls, i.e. easier scratching than in the case of metal backs. Fortunately, however, the quality of the glasses used is going steeply forward, which Corning will now try to convince the world with the new generation of Gorilla Glass.

Corning is the true king in the world of tempered glass for smartphones. Its Gorilla Glass and its offshoots are widely used by almost all smartphone manufacturers, including Applu, which takes its own version of glass from it. Tonight, the company announced that it has managed to develop a new generation of its Gorilla Glass, which should literally tear the previous one apart in some ways. The manufacturer has called it Gorilla Glass Victus and promises that it will be able to withstand drops from two meters instead of 1,6 meters, as was the case with the previous generation, or survive twenty drops from one meter instead of sixteen drops from one meter in the previous generation. Even more interesting than resistance to damage caused by a drop is the significant increase in scratch resistance. According to Corning, this has increased twice, which could theoretically eliminate the need for adhesive tempered glass - i.e. miniat least for more frugal users.

When exactly the new Gorilla Glass Victus will be available for smartphones, Corning did not boast. However, it is quite likely that they will deploy it or a specially modified version of it Apple already up to iPhone 12. It has been cooperating with Corning for a long time in this direction and financially supports it also in terms of development. Thanks to this, he has certain privileges with him, such as being the first to use new glasses. However, we will have to wait until the fall when the new iPhones arrive for official confirmation of this theory.
