Reports on how Apple Watch contributed to saving human life, the Internet is full. Apple wants his smart watch to primarily benefit human health, which is why he has also added an EKG function to it. And it was this feature that recently helped save another human life. On the discussion network Reddit, one of the users shared his experience when his Apple Watch Series 4 pointed out major problems.

According to sports enthusiast Phil Harrison, he was training for a marathon when he began to experience persistent heart palpitations. So he decided to use the EKG function on his Apple Watch, to reveal what's going on. The feature had only been live in Harrison's home UK for just a week at the time. As part of the measurement, the watch alerted him to the risk of atrial fibrillation, which, in Harrison's own words, caused great concern. He decided to see a specialist doctor, and the whole event ended with a planned heart operation.

In his post on Reddit, Harrison said that his doctors forbade him to participate in the marathon, which was supposed to start ten days after the mentioned event. “Now, two and a half months after a series of tests, I have been told I need valve repair via open heart surgery,” Harrison writes. In his own words, doctors advised him to undergo the procedure "sooner rather than later" and scheduled the operation for July 3 of this year.

Apple he introduced the ECG function with the arrival of the fourth generation of his Apple Watch. The important function was initially limited to only selected areas in the United States, but over time it began to expand and is currently also available in the Czech Republic.
