We have been informing you for some time through articles that 5G-enabled data chips will definitely not be available in iPhones this year and we will probably have to wait until next year. According to an analyst from UBS, this is not the case.oneIt won't be. Apple it still does not have a suitable supplier and therefore we will have to wait until 2021.

The iPhone XS features data modems from Intel:

Currently, in iPhonech finds a data chip from Intel, which is Apple turned due to legal disputes with its former exclusive supplier, Qualcomm, which, however, lost its exclusivity with the arrival of the iPhone 7. Although Apple he was talking about bringing Qualcomm back into his supply chain, according to available information, he doesn't even want to hear about it because of the legal wrangling.

Although Intel has proven to be a reliable supplier, it plans to fully transition to 5G technology only at the end of next year, which is why such modems cannot be implemented in the iPhone XII. At least that's how UBS sees it. A potential supplier could be Samsung, which would meet all the technical requirements of the Apple company, but alone Apple allegedly refuses to take data modems from him. Samsung now supplies OLED displays, and if it were to start taking care of chips with 5G technology, Apple would be met with sharp criticism from its users and analysts.

Another nail in the coffin?

Unfortunately, the absence of this technology could once again be reflected in the sales of the new phone itself, which were already considerably below average last year. However, the company MediaTek is still in the game, which is capable of producing 5G modems for Apple phones, but does not meet the high standards of the Apple company.

For these reasons, we will probably have to wait until 2021 for 5G technology and make do with the current LTE. Will Apple until 2020, it will find a suitable supplier, for now it is in the stars. For now, all we have to do is wait.
