Na Apple is facing a lawsuit from Uniloc, a well-known patent troll, for yet another alleged patent infringement. The lawsuit was filed in the district court of Texas and according to its diction Apple infringes on a patent that deals with connecting to a wireless network. Specifically, the patent is titled “System and Method for Providing Configuration to Service Providers for Telephones Using a Central Server in a Data-Network Telephone System.” This patent specifically describes how a cell connects to a cell network based on its identification number.

The patent was originally registered by 3com in 2000. This company was then purchased by Hewlett-Packard and thus gained control over the patent, but since 2017, plaintiff Uniloc has owned it. The company claims that all models from the iPhone 5, iPads in the Cellular version, all iPads mini, iPad Pro, 1st and 2nd generation iPads Air a Apple Watch Series 1 to 3 infringe this patent. Uniloc believes it is entitled to unspecified damages and legal fees. However, whether it will receive compensation is currently up in the air.
